Major update on AJ Styles following potential injury on WWE SmackDown - Reports

There has been a major update regarding AJ Styles' potential injury suffered this past Friday night on WWE SmackDown. The Phenomenal One was off WWE television for months before returning on this past Friday's edition of the blue brand.

Carmelo Hayes interrupted AJ Styles during SmackDown, and the two stars had a singles match. The referee stopped the match due to an apparent injury to Styles, and Hayes was awarded the victory. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select shared a new report today and discussed the potential injury to Styles.

Sapp noted that he initially heard that the injury was a work and that the veteran was fine in real life. However, Sapp added that reports elsewhere have claimed it was a legitimate injury, and Styles' friends and backstage employees have been told that the former champion is hurt.

Sapp noted that WWE filmed Styles going to the back, aired a segment in the trainer's room, and showed the former champion on crutches on SmackDown LowDown. He added that there was a lot during SmackDown that would cause him to believe that it wasn't a real injury, and he remains hopeful that it was all part of a storyline.

WWE RAW star names AJ Styles as his dream opponent

Pete Dunne recently named AJ Styles as his dream opponent in the company and noted that he grew up watching him.

Speaking with Sportskeeda Wrestling's Bill Apter in an exclusive interview, Dunne shared that he grew up admiring Styles as a wrestler. The Bruiserweight added that he was a big fan of Styles' work on the independent wrestling scene.

"I wrestled in recently a Four-Way, but I grew up admiring AJ Styles a lot. I was a big fun of obviously his independent stuff at that time and that early TNA stuff. We had the wrestling channel back in the UK, so... And he was on it a lot and he was somebody I looked up to a lot." [1:40]
