Major update on potential opponents for John Cena's WWE retirement tour - Reports

John Cena appeared at the 2024 Money in the Bank Premium Live Event to announce that he will be retiring from WWE next year. Several stars could now face The Chain Gang Soldier, and there is an update on his potential opponents.

Cena has worked hard to reach the top of the industry over the past two decades. His popularity has also helped him become one of the biggest names in Hollywood.

However, as he has already announced his farewell tour, Cena will go out after competing in some big matches and PLEs to entertain his fans.

Many people believed that WrestleMania 2025 would host John Cena’s last match. However, The Champ stated that he would continue to fight for some more dates after the big show. According to a report from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, several names have been discussed regarding Cena’s potential opponents. However, it must be kept in mind that nothing is confirmed yet.

"Nothing is for sure as far as opponents, and he’s discussing who he would like to work with. There is a tentative schedule, including major arenas and overseas dates," Dave Meltzer said.

John Cena’s retirement announcement came as a surprise to many people. However, the fact that he will compete a lot more in 2025 will have many fans delighted as The Greatest of All Time could finally win his 17th world title.

However, he will likely face some old foes like CM Punk, Randy Orton, and Cody Rhodes while potentially taking on newcomers such as Bron Breakker and Carmelo Hayes at some point.

John Cena will likely not pick his opponents before his WWE retirement

It is no secret that John Cena became a big name in WWE purely because of his hard work. He has been in a position to pick his opponents but recently said that he would not do so heading forward.

Cena's retirement tour could see him compete with many new faces. However, The Cenation Leader will likely leave it up to WWE to decide who his opponents will be.

"I don't and have never put much stock in expectations that are beyond my control and I've tried to lead in existence where I can control what I can. And I am in no position to hand-pick opponents. I've always had a wonderful time challenging myself, telling stories with whatever hand I was dealt. So I think that's part of the allure and part of the excitement of what we're about to embark on is stories we can't tell and hopefully who's gonna show up. We'll see," John Cena said.

WWE fans will stay glued to their screens to find out John Cena’s future before his retirement. Many superstars could get the deserved rub from the legend on his way out.
