Surprising update on when WWE is planning Goldberg vs. Gunther match (Exclusive)
Goldberg versus Gunther is a very definitive direction following the events of Bad Blood 2024. It's not a matter of if, but when they face off. A new report has emerged about just how quickly the match was planned and when it could happen.
On the Live Q&A with Bill Apter & WrestleVotes, host Joe Lowry asked WrestleVotes about what WWE has planned for Goldberg vs. Gunther after it was teased at Bad Blood 2024.
In a bit of a surprising update, WrestleVotes stated that not only was everything planned shortly before Bad Blood but there could be plans for an angle at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia - leading to a match at Survivor Series that will be on the undercard.
The latter update, in particular, is quite surprising. Survivor Series was the show where the WWE Hall of Famer made his in-ring return eight years ago and it was a massive success, but under completely different circumstances.
Some had speculated that the match would happen down the line, particularly during the Saudi Arabia show in May. The Hall of Famer hasn't picked up a win on American soil since 2017 and all of his wins since then have been overseas.
Should he win, assuming the match happens at Survivor Series, that too will be on International soil as the premium live event will be taking place in Vancouver, Canada.
Is this Goldberg's final stand after he was promised a retirement match?
After Goldberg lost to Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber 2022, Vince McMahon and he reportedly had a handshake deal where he would get a proper retirement match.
It failed to materialize for the longest time and the wrestling legend would call out WWE for not sticking to their word. He said that nobody says when he's done, which is why he was fighting against the idea even though many assumed that he had just hung up his boots.
There is no word on whether his match against Gunther will be his final stand, but it would certainly mark a more satisfying end to his career than his underwhelming bout against Roman Reigns in February 2022. A few months prior to that, he had one of the best matches of his career in Saudi Arabia, defeating Bobby Lashley in a moment of revenge from SummerSlam 2021.
