The Rock set to appear at upcoming WWE event - Reports

The Rock is reportedly set to make an appearance at an upcoming WWE premium live event.

The 51-year-old made a surprise return to WWE at RAW: DAY 1. The Hollywood Star interrupted Jinder Mahal's promo to send the crowd into a frenzy. The Brahma Bull ended the segment by teasing a potential match against Roman Reigns after flattening The Modern Day Maharaja with The People's Elbow.

In the most recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer stated the possibility of The Rock making a surprise appearance in the Royal Rumble Match. He further named the former World Champion among the favorites to win the match alongside Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Gunther, and LA Knight:

“Punk and Rhodes are the obvious favorites to win, with Gunther, Knight and Rock following. The idea of Rock as a surprise Rumble entrant coming in late and winning was discussed for past years when there was an idea of him headlining Mania. So while nobody has advertised it and it probably wouldn’t happen, I wouldn’t reject it as a possibility. Obviously this is completely up to Dwayne Johnson. The usual protocol is that one world title challenger would win at the Rumble and the other at Elimination Chamber.” [H/T: Ringside News]

Mickie James picks The Rock over Cody Rhodes to headline WrestleMania 40

Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble Match in 2023 and picked Roman Reigns as his opponent for WrestleMania with the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on the line. Unfortunately, The American Nightmare failed to secure the win following multiple interferences from the members of The Bloodline.

There was a general belief that Cody Rhodes would take his revenge at this year's WrestleMania. However, the return of The Rock has sparked speculation about him facing The Head of The Table at The Show of Shows instead of Rhodes.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Mickie James stated she would much rather see The Rock take on Roman Reigns at the premium live event over Cody Rhodes:

"You know, I love Cody [Rhodes], he's my friend, he's my brother, and I'm excited to see him shine. He's freaking killing [it], but if I'm going to — if I have the option to see, if I had the opportunity to watch Roman [Reigns] and Cody again at WrestleMania or Roman and Rock for the first time ever at WrestleMania, you best believe I'm looking for Roman and Rock. The Rock has carte blanche, in my opinion, in the wrestling business to walk out on any stage to call his shot," she said.
