Unfortunate update on AJ Styles amid WWE hiatus - reports

AJ Styles hasn't been seen on WWE programming since his loss to Cody Rhodes at Clash at the Castle back in June. Styles has since appeared at WWE live events and was part of the recent tour of Berlin but was not featured on the Bash in Berlin card.

There have been numerous updates surrounding Styles in recent weeks claiming that the former WWE Champion is off TV at the moment because the creative has no plans for him and it seems like Fightful Select recently agreed with this.

The report by Sean Ross Sapp noted that AJ Styles' contract is set to expire within the next 12 months. However, currently, there's no news about The Phenomenal One signing a new deal. It was also stated that confirmation on an exact date would follow, but it's surprising that he isn't one of the stars that WWE is looking to re-sign before his deal expires.

WWE has signed a number of stars to new deals in recent months including Seth Rollins, Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, and Asuka, but it seems like Styles is not someone that they are working hard to retain.

Is AJ Styles' WWE career coming to an end?

At the age of 47, it's clear that Styles is in the twilight of his career. He has been part of the business for almost three decades.

AJ Styles has previously stated that he wanted to retire at the right moment to spend more time with his family several years ago. However, he could be looking to do exactly that now. Styles hasn't won a title in WWE in several years and even teased retirement as part of his feud with Cody Rhodes heading into Clash at the Castle.

With his WWE deal set to expire in the coming months, it will be interesting to see if he is able to wrestle for the company on-screen again and take part in a compelling storyline one last time.
