Unfortunate update on Bronson Reed ahead of WWE SmackDown - Reports
WWE SmackDown Superstars are gearing up for an action-packed post-Survivor Series: WarGames episode with the fallout from the PLE. Bronson Reed is among those still recovering from last Saturday's grueling main event, and now sources have revealed an unfortunate update for the Australian talent.
The King of Monsters made his debut inside the double-cage WarGames structure last weekend at Survivor Series. At one point, Reed went to the top of the cage and tried to put Roman Reigns through a table with the Tsunami. CM Punk foiled him by pulling his teammate to safety, forcing Reed to crash through the table below.
Sources noted that the word from backstage at Rogers Arena following Saturday's PLE was that Reed suffered an injury to one of his ankles, if not both. The 36-year-old later indicated a right ankle injury and revealed that he was headed home to get the damage checked out.
The Auszilla is likely scheduled to undergo surgery sometime next week, according to the word going around WWE. The PWInsider report adds that the injury is to Reed's "ankle/foot," with no actual confirmation on the specifics.
Reed, who had been using a crutch and walking boot, underwent an MRI on his ankles this past Monday, according to Fightful Select. They also seemingly confirmed with sources that Reed was scheduled for surgery.
Reed's Tsunami splash was always booked to end his run in the WarGames main event, but he legitimately needed help post-match. It remains to be seen when Reed will be back in action, and we should know more after the surgery.
Bronson Reed's injury forces major WWE changes
Bronson Reed is set to undergo surgery next week for his injury suffered at WWE Survivor Series last week. This means he will likely be out of action for the foreseeable future.
Colossal Reed is still advertised for at least some upcoming WWE events, as of this writing, including December 26 at Madison Square Garden, where he was set to wrestle Seth Rollins in a Steel Cage. The match was also booked for additional events on the annual post-Christmas tour, but PWInsider reports that tour lineups will be changed in the coming days with a new match for The Visionary.
Reed's injury also led to the return of Drew McIntyre. The Scottish Warrior had been away since losing the Hell in a Cell Match to CM Punk at WWE Bad Blood on October 5, but he returned on this Monday's RAW to attack Sami Zayn after the latter's loss to Seth Rollins. PWInsider reports that McIntyre's return was pushed up due to Reed going on the shelf.
The report was backed up by Fightful Select, who added that McIntyre's return was being discussed in the last week or so, but it was accelerated due to the injury to Reed.
