Update on Sheamus' WWE contract - Reports

There has been an update regarding Sheamus' WWE contract situation ahead of tonight's episode of the red brand. The former World Heavyweight Champion has not competed since losing to Pete Dune on the September 16 edition of WWE RAW.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select responded to a fan's question today and provided more details on The Celtic Warrior's contract situation. Sapp noted that the veteran reached a new agreement with the company a few weeks ago, and WWE is hoping to retain the 46-year-old for the rest of his professional wrestling career.

Sapp also noted that Sheamus' deal was originally supposed to expire earlier this year, but time was added due to injury.

The RAW star sent a message after reportedly signing a new deal with the company earlier this month and noted that he hoped to be wrestling for many years to come.

Former WWE writer reacts to Sheamus' recent loss on RAW

Wrestling legend Vince Russo recently reacted to Sheamus losing to Pete Dunne on the September 16 edition of RAW.

Pete Dunne and the former champion were once stablemates in The Brawling Brutes faction. Ridge Holland was also a member of the group and currently performs for the NXT roster. Dunne blamed the veteran for giving him the "Butch" nickname and picked up a victory over his former mentor two weeks ago.

Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW show, Russo wondered if anyone wanted to see a rematch between the two stars. He suggested that there were not too many fans intrigued by the rivalry between the former Brawling Brutes stablemates on the red brand.

"So Pete Dunne beat Sheamus. Do you give one iota about Sheamus getting his revenge back? Do you ever care if Sheamus ever gets Pete Dunne in the ring to get his win back? Who cares about that?" [11:50 onwards]

You can check out Russo's comments in the video below:

Sheamus has had a remarkable career as a WWE Superstar so far but has never captured the Intercontinental Championship during his time in the company. It will be interesting to see what the company has planned for the veteran moving forward on RAW.
