Rumor update on WWE potentially using Matt Cardona and Chelsea Green together

The WWE Universe continues to buzz this week over a potential forbidden door match involving Chelsea Green and Matt Cardona. The rumor mill picked up going into Saturday Night's Main Event as Green looks to make history. Sources have now provided a backstage update on the matter, along with a very on-brand statement from the former Zack Ryder.

World Wrestling Entertainment and Game Changer Wrestling began a working relationship several months ago after discussing it in recent years. The Wrestling Observer recently reported that GCW approached WWE about Green potentially teaming up with her husband, Cardona. The duo would have faced Joey Janela and Megan Bayne at The People vs. GCW on Sunday, January 19, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, but the global juggernaut allegedly dismissed the idea.

Fightful Select provided an update on the WWE—GCW talk and noted that the idea was just "a momentary thought and nothing else," seemingly claiming that reports may have been overblown.

When approached about the rumors, Cardona refused to give them credibility. The one-time GCW World Champion said he was too busy being the Indy God to comment on internet rumors.

Cardona and Green last worked a standard mixed tag team match at TNA's Multiverse of Matches on April 1, 2022, where Nick Aldis and Mickie James defeated them. The happy couple began dating in January 2017 and then became engaged to be married on April 4, 2019. They tied the knot on December 31, 2021.

Chelsea Green set for major WWE SNME match

Chelsea Green and Michin are looking to secure their first-ever WWE singles championship later tonight on the return of Saturday Night's Main Event. They will do battle in tournament finals to crown the inaugural Women's United States Champion,

A major potential spoiler was revealed earlier today on Green vs. Michin. Chelsea got here by beating Bianca Belair and Blair Davenport in her first-round Triple Threat and then defeating Bayley in Friday's semi-final match on SmackDown.

Michin earned her spot in tonight's finals by defeating Lash Legend and Piper Niven in the first round and Tiffany Stratton in the semis on Friday.

Green and Michin have wrestled each other numerous times on the main roster, NXT, TNA Wrestling, and other indie promotions since 2017. Their last singles bout was a Dumpster Match on SmackDown in October, where the former Mia Yim got the victory.
