Update on WWE's Baron Corbin after going MIA - Reports
The strange case of Baron Corbin continues on WWE television in 2024. Despite a promising start and a wide range of moments in his career, from absolutely stunning to plain embarrassing, Corbin has consistently proved his versatility. However, he remains one of the most underutilized talents.
After moving to SmackDown this year, the former King of the Ring was paired with Apollo Crews. As it turns out, although initially he was not a fan of his pairing with Crews, he grew to like it. Unfortunately, WWE creative hasn't been as keen on booking them. Since July 19, Corbin has disappeared from television altogether.
Per Fightful Select, The Lone Wolf is not injured and has been at a number of Smackdown tapings recently. Of late, they have worked with The O.C. and Los Garza in dark matches.
Baron Corbin retired Kurt Angle, could he replicate this with another WWE legend?
WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle is recognized as one of the best to ever lace up a pair of boots in the wrestling ring. In 2019, he worked his final match against Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35. As a true veteran of the industry, he went out on his back, putting over the former US Champion.
Heading into The Show of Shows, a lot of fans hoped John Cena would appear for an impromptu match with Angle, which in turn would be the latter's final bout. The Hall of Famer addressed this dream scenario many times in the years since. He recently discussed the prospect of returning to the ring today for a match against Cena.
The 16-time World Champion has announced a Farewell Tour for 2025, beginning in January and culminating in December. While speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Smack Talk, Dutch Mantell turned heads when he joked that he would buy tickets to see The Lone Wolf end John Cena's in-ring career.
"Oh, Baron Corbin? That would be good. I'd watch that! (...) I would even buy a ticket to go see it. Then, they would srew me and have Corbin beat him, and I'd go, 'What the hell!?'"
Baron Corbin and John Cena have history together, dating back to 2017, as it was The Cenation Leader who cost him his Money in the Bank cash-in match against then-WWE Champion Jinder Mahal. The two met in the ring later that year at SummerSlam, with Cena walking away victorious.
