WWE changed major backstage rule at RAW - Reports

The new era of WWE has brought many significant changes to the product and to how things are done behind the scenes. The latest episode of RAW took the Stamford-based company one step closer to the Netflix launch, which is sure to bring more change. Sources backstage have revealed an interesting change to the unique creative process.

RAW featured notable matches this week, along with a few viral promos. The show kicked off with CM Punk's tense speech and a stern warning for Drew McIntyre ahead of their upcoming Hell in a Cell match. Hour two began with Jey Uso coming out for a promo segment, which ended with a Spear to drop Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker. The second hour closed with Sami Zayn's in-ring promo. The segment carried into hour three as Ludwig Kaiser and Gunther double-teamed Sami. The current World Heavyweight Champion left first, which allowed Zayn to drop Kaiser with a Helluva Kick.

The WWE creative writers for each of these segments were listed on the internal run sheets. PWInsider reported that this is a big change from the usual way of doing things as writers traditionally have not been listed on the run sheets provided to producers and others backstage.

In the past, no writers or producers were listed on run sheets for the segments that did not include physical interactions. A backstage source described the change as a "natural evolution" of how the WWE creative process is handled.

Senior Writer/Producer Alexandra Williams was credited for the Punk segment. She was hired in October 2020 as a Writer/Producer for RAW but was promoted to Senior Writer/Producer for RAW and PLE this past February. She also lists herself as being with TKO Group Holdings since February.

Longtime WWE creative team member and comedian Brian Parise was the writer listed for Uso's segment. Christian Scovell was the writer for the Zayn segment. He joined WWE on November 18 as a Writer's Assistant for the main roster. He was promoted to the role of Writer/Producer in February 2021.

Jey Uso is set for a major match on WWE RAW next week

Jey Uso challenged former Intercontinental Champion Gunther at several non-televised live events this year, but he's only had one opportunity on TV: the February 19, 2024, episode of RAW, where The Ring General defeated The Yeet Master in 19 minutes. Uso will get his second televised shot at the Intercontinental Championship against Bron Breakker on the red brand next week.

Main Event Jey Uso earned the title shot by winning a Fatal Four-Way Match against Braun Strowman, Pete Dunne, and Ilja Dragunov on September 9, 2024. Uso vs. Breakker was expected for WWE Bad Blood at one point, but the match was pushed up to RAW.

If victorious next week, Uso will begin his first-ever singles championship reign in the Stamford-based promotion. The Yeet Master is a ten-time tag team champion, but he has never held a singles title.
