WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman was heavily involved in recent high-profile segment - Reports
WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman has not been seen on television since June. But it appears he is still heavily involved in creative.
This past Friday on SmackDown, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns met at the Georgia Tech Field. This was a pre-recorded segment, in which the arch-rivals came face-to-face to seemingly solve their differences and come to an agreement for their upcoming tag team contest at Bad Blood. The show emanates from Georgia, where Reigns played football in this locale during his education, while Rhodes hails from the state.
The segment featured several noteworthy lines, as The American Nightmare demanded the Original Tribal Chief's word that the latter will have his back against Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu. Reigns wound up leaving after informing Rhodes that he is in the former's way, in life.
As per PWInsider, Paul Heyman was "intricately involved" in the segment and personally directed the talent for the scene. The Wiseman is usually always part of Roman Reigns' segments in some form or fashion, and this time was no different.
A WrestleMania trilogy for the ages, why Roman Reigns returned to SmackDown without Paul Heyman?
After The Bloodline destroyed Roman Reigns a few ago on SmackDown, Reigns returned to the blue brand last week and helped Cody Rhodes once again. However, Paul Heyman is still missing and is yet to make his comeback on weekly programming.
There are rumblings for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to return and challenge The American Nightmare. But the latter's confrontation with the OTC at the Georgia Tech Field has created significant buzz, with intrigue surrounding a third encounter between the two.
Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer recently reported that WWE is considering running back Reigns vs. Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 if Johnson's schedule does not allow for him to return on time for The Show of Shows.
There have been trilogies at WWE's Showcase of The Immortals before. Roman Reigns himself was part of one, against Brock Lesnar. However, no two superstars have ever faced each other back-to-back at three WrestleMania shows, in the main event, no less.
WWE analyst Sam Roberts discussed this possibility for next year in Las Vegas. Here's what Roberts stated on his podcast NotSam Wrestling:
"For the first time, we have a rivalry [Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns] between two top talents in WWE that could main event three WrestleManias and not only be the first to main event three WrestleManias but do it in a row," Sam Roberts said.
Meanwhile, Paul Heyman's absence has made Roman Reigns vulnerable, believes Sam Roberts. The analyst points to this as the predominant reason why The OTC returned without The Wiseman.
