WWE may have surprising plans for Cody Rhodes after Night of Champions - Reports

With Night of Champions just days away, it has been reported that Cody Rhodes may be absent from WWE TV after the event.

This week on RAW, ahead of his match with Brock Lesnar, The American Nightmare had his arm 'broken' by The Beast during a vicious assault.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that Rhodes' injury angle may force the company to keep him away from the action for a period of time.

"I know, and he’s the key guy, he’s the main event on these house shows and he’s the biggest drawing card that goes on the road right now. So, it is an interesting storyline, you’re right? Are they gonna keep him out for some time? My guess is that maybe it is a way for Brock to win the second match and Cody to save face, ‘oh he fought Brock with a broken arm,’ and they’re split at one win each and they can do another match down the line, or maybe they just make Cody into a big superhero." Despite defeating Brock Lesnar earlier this month at Backlash, Cody is still seen as a huge underdog as the two stars are set to collide once again this Saturday at Night of Champions.

WWE has had discussions on a potentially huge Cody Rhodes match

Since returning to WWE in April 2022, the son of Dusty Rhodes has been booked as one of the biggest stars in the company, with him main-eventing WrestleMania 39 last month against Roman Reigns.

According to a recent report from WRKD Wrestling, there have been "discussions" for Cody Rhodes to potentially face Gunther in the main event of WrestleMania 40 next year, as "both superstars have expressed interest" in facing one another.

While it’s still early, discussions have taken place for #WWERaw’s main event for WrestleMania 40 to potentially be Cody Rhodes vs. Gunther.

Both superstars have expressed interest in working with each other in the past and are seen as the top face and heel on the Raw roster. https://t.co/fcQMZ0ACTb

Cody and the current Intercontinental Champion gave fans a taste of what they can do in the ring together in January as they were the last two stars in the Royal Rumble match.
