WWE officials reportedly very upset over ending of recent show
WWE is preparing to wrap another successful year with momentum for all brands. RAW is approaching its Netflix era, SmackDown has returned to the USA Network, and NXT has had a hot start to its CW era. Despite strong shows as of late, sources have just revealed concerning behind-the-scenes details on why officials are not happy with one ending.
Giulia and Stephanie Vaquer headlined Tuesday's Halloween Havoc go-home NXT episode, defeating Fatal Influence's Fallon Henley and Jacy Jayne. Kelani Jordan ran down to stop Jazmyn Nyx's interference so the babyfaces could win. After the match, the newcomers posed with the Women's North American Champion while Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade looked on.
As Jayne spun the wheel for Jordan's Halloween Havoc title defense, it landed on Spinner's Choice, but before the announcement could be made, the lights went out. The lights flashed again before scenes from Zaria's earlier vignettes were shown, and then the former Delta stood at the entrance as Vic Joseph yelled out. NXT on CW then abruptly went off the air.
WWE officials are said to be "very upset" with the ending of Tuesday's episode. Fightful Select adds that many viewers did not see Zaria's appearance, as the feed was cut from the air in some cases.
NXT was scheduled to run until exactly 10 p.m. ET. The show ended after significant pre-planning by the NXT production crew to hit the end-time mark. Producers were informed of a 20-second delay to the CW affiliate feed in the Orlando market, which also applied to multiple CW affiliate feeds that cut the end of the episode too early. It was noted that officials had previously confirmed with satellite providers that the episode would stay on the air until 10 p.m.
The behind-the-scenes anger was immense. While officials were described as "very upset" at the early ending, a backstage NXT source added that "everyone who runs or has a say in the show was pi**ed" over what happened.
WWE officials were actually anticipating these issues and had been in the weeks leading up to the CW premiere on October 1. This is due to the network having hard-outs to get programs off the air. NXT had a lot more flexibility on the USA Network, which was recently a hot topic of discussion within the company.
