WWE's backstage plans for a major shift in Damian Priest's character revealed (Exclusive)
Damian Priest has emerged as one of WWE's top babyfaces in 2024 and it looks like his push is not stopping any time soon. In a new report, it has been revealed that WWE has some big plans for a shift in his character.
On WrestleVotes Radio exclusively on Backstage Pass, JoeyVotes and TC spoke about Damian Priest's push and what lies ahead for him. The man formerly known as "El Campeon" recently lost to Dominik Mysterio, but took out a Finn Balor-less Judgment day after the match.
According to JoeyVotes and TC, WWE is planning to expand on Damian Priest's merchandise and overall marketability, with the intention of pushing him as an even bigger babyface. Playing into his Puerto Rican roots, he will reportedly start wearing a "Vejigante mask" - a traditional mask of his home country. He previously wore one at WrestleMania 40 Night 1 and it could be incorporated into his character.
When will Damian Priest challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship again?
In the penultimate episode of RAW before WWE Crown Jewel, Damian Priest confronted the man who dethroned him to become World Heavyweight Champion: Gunther. In a tense segment, Priest assured him that he wasn't expecting any handout and that he would earn his way to a title shot.
It's unfinished business for Priest, whose title loss to Gunther came as a direct result of Finn Balor's betrayal at SummerSlam 2024. It also kicked off a war between The Terror Twins and The Judgment Day. Now that Priest is no longer partnering with Rhea Ripley, he's off on a singles path again.
It was mentioned in the previous episode of Backstage Pass that Priest vs. Gunther will likely take place at Saturday Night's Main Event in December, while Cody Rhodes vs. Kevin Owens is possibly going to be the other marquee matchup.
