WWE seemingly has new policy on "partnerships" in the Triple H era - Reports
WWE has opened its own 'forbidden door' in a major way this past year. While Vince McMahon was not big on working with other wrestling promotions, for the most part, things have been different in the Triple H era. However, now an interesting stance on these relationships has seemingly been revealed from backstage.
McMahon had a few partnerships over the years, with companies such as ECW, NWA, and PROGRESS. There were also several talent exchanges with USWA, NJPW, and AAA, among others. The former President later partnered with promotions to operate as WWE developmental territories: OVW, DSW, HWA, IWA, and MCW. In the ongoing new era, WWE has worked with TNA, AJPW, GCW, Pro Wrestling NOAH, and Dream Star Fighting Marigold.
World Wrestling Entertainment does not consider these working alliances as "partnerships," according to Fightful Select. The official word is that WWE has "talent exchanges" with other wrestling promotions, but it wasn't clear why the term 'partnership' was a no-go.
National Wrestling Alliance announced eleven months ago that NWA Powerrr would air weekly on the CW app after their one-year deal with FITE expired. Season 16 of the show premiered on February 6, and the app is currently the only way to watch the promotion's one-hour flagship show.
There's no word yet on whether Powerrr will be brought to the main network in the future, or if CW will entirely drop the show due to WWE.
The aforementioned report came after a fan asked about a potential NXT - NWA partnership now that both promotions were on the CW Network. Vince McMahon Sr. originally left the National Wrestling Alliance in 1963, but re-joined in 1971, and was affiliated with them until Vince Jr. bought WWE (fka WWF) in 1982. The legendary promotions worked together again in 1998 for the NWA invasion angle.
It was noted by Fightful's, Sean Ross Sapp, that WWE linking back up with the longest-running wrestling promotion would come as a big surprise. Many NWA talents are essentially free agents, but some do have deals that limit bookings. However, Billy Corgan's organization is known to be fair about letting wrestlers out of their contracts or letting them expire, if there's nothing for that talent. It was speculated that the recently-released Missa Kate and Joe Alonzo would be strong fits for NXT.
