WWE will reportedly not renew major contract when it expires; company looking at other options
WWE is reportedly not planning on renewing a major contract. The company will be looking at other options after its deal with Def Rebel expires.
Def Rebel is the team that produces new theme songs for the global wrestling juggernaut. They composed some of the most popular music on the RAW and SmackDown brand. Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, IYO SKY, Rhea Ripley, and many more superstars' themes currently used in the company were created by Def Rebel. However, they have gained a notorious reputation among wrestling fans for some of the underwhelming music they created.
According to PW Nexus on X, it's possible that WWE will not renew its deal with Def Rebel when it comes up. The report adds that the company is looking to collaborate with mainstream artists more often.
WWE SmackDown debuted a new theme song this week
For the 25th anniversary of the blue brand, a new logo and theme song were introduced for the show. This week's SmackDown aired on USA Network instead of FOX, and that will be its home for the foreseeable future.
SmackDown opened with a new intro, and "Neva Play" by Megan Thee Stallion featuring RM of BTS is the new theme song for the show. In the opening match, Solo Sikoa challenged Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship inside a Steel Cage. The American Nightmare emerged victorious via pinfall after hitting the Crossroads.
Andrade beat Carmelo Hayes for the third time to become the #1 contender for the United States Championship. In the last match of the night, a returning Randy Orton teamed up with Kevin Owens and they defeated A-Town Down Under.
The final segment involved Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and The Bloodline. The OTC and American Nightmare signed a contract for a tag team match against Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu at Bad Blood.
