WWE Rumours: Finn Balor to return sooner than expected
Finn Balor won the WWE Universal Championship at Summerslam, being the inaugural champion. Unfortunately, he had dislocated his shoulder in the match and had even gone on to complete the match. However, he had to vacate the title the next day, and it was said that he was expected to be out for six months.
The time period left his Wrestlemania status up in the air, but over the course of the past month, it was reported that he has been recovering very fast. AllWrestlingNews.com is reporting that Balor is continually progressing very well in his rehab at Birmingham, Alabama under Dr. Jeffery Dugas and also at the WWE Performance Center.
The report said that Balor is very optimistic about his return and is waiting to get back into the Squared Circle as soon as possible. It seems almost set in stone that he will be back on time for Wrestlemania 33, but officials are hoping for his return to be sooner. They are reportedly even beginning to pen in storylines for his return.
As mentioned, it was very unfortunate for Balor that he got injured at the time he did, because he had just been called up to the main roster and had just won his first big world title. He was perhaps set to be Raw’s top babyface going forward. However, an injury is all part of the game, and Balor doesn’t seem to be too taken aback by it.
As Jim Ross stated when interviewing Balor, he surely knows how the company views him given the nature of his push, and Balor acknowledged the fact. He even proceeded to defend Seth Rollins who had gotten criticism for giving him the buckle bomb onto the barrier that caused his shoulder dislocation in the first place.
There has been heavy speculation as to when Balor will return, and the biggest indicator is the Royal Rumble. While storyline wise, Balor should technically be entitled to a rematch for the WWE Universal Championship he never lost, a Royal Rumble return is always better, and the dirtsheets and bets are already quite in favour of Balor winning the Royal Rumble.
It would be historic once more for him as this coming Rumble will be the 30th anniversary and will be taking place in the legendary Alamodome at San Antonio, Texas in what is being expected to be the largest Royal Rumble crowd to date.
