WWE Rumours: Update on Dean Ambrose's future plans and possible heel turn

Ambrose may be in for another Intercontinental Championship reign

The feud between Dean Ambrose and WWE World Champion AJ Styles finally appears to have come to an end following their epic battle at the TLC pay-per-view, where the champion managed to survive courtesy of a little assistance from James Ellsworth.

Ellsworth, who had been Ambrose’s associate over the past few weeks, shocked the world by turning on him and ensuring that he missed out on possibly his last chance to win the title. On the following episode of SmackDown Live, ‘The Lunatic Fringe’ confronted the blue brand’s newest superstar and hit him with the ‘Dirty Deeds’.

Later that night, Dean Ambrose appeared on Miz TV where he ended up having a verbal altercation with The Miz which led to general manager Daniel Bryan fixing up a match between them for the latter’s Intercontinental title.

During the match, James Ellsworth came to the ringside area once again causing Ambrose to get distracted and lose.

As reported by The Wrestling Observer, the top two men’s feuds on SmackDown Live going into 2017 are likely to be between John Cena and AJ Styles for the WWE World Championship and The Miz and Dean Ambrose for the IC championship.

This suggests that the encounter between Ambrose and ‘The Awesome One’ this Tuesday was possibly a precursor to an upcoming rivalry between them. With Dolph Ziggler very much out of the picture, a superstar of Dean’s calibre feuding with The Miz for the Intercontinental title could lend more relevance to it.

Down the line, there may also be a chance of ‘The Lunatic Fringe’ turning heel if he goes on become the Intercontinental Champion. Taking a cue from The Miz’s ongoing tussle with Daniel Bryan, the WWE may push towards a similar feud between Ambrose and SmackDown commissioner Shane McMahon.

Considering McMahon’s popularity among the fans and the fact that he had asked Dean Ambrose to leave the building on the post-Survivor Series episode of SmackDown Live, it may be ideal that he is confronted by a ‘heel’ version of Ambrose in the near future and a Wrestlemania 33 match is set up between them.
