Samoa Joe to remain on RAW commentary until medically cleared

While he's been sitting on the sidelines with a thumb injury, Samoa Joe has been doing the rounds fabulously on commentary. It appears that commentary will be his gig until he's medically cleared for action as reported by WWE Insider Ryan Satin on WWE Backstage.

Joe has appeared on both Backstage, PPV pre-show panels and on RAW commentary over the last month. Due to his strong mic work, it has helped fill in some of the gaps since the WWE Draft came and went. Jerry Lawler returned to RAW alongside new faces Vic Joseph and Dio Maddin, but none of those men can touch Joe on the mic.

Maddin had been a developmental talent in NXT but made his RAW debut as a part of the new commentary team. As part of a storyline between Rey Mysterio and Brock Lesnar, however, the former NFL star received an F-5 when he stuck up for Lawler. The Beast was looking for Mysterio but didn't believe that the King was unaware of the current United States Champion's whereabouts.

Ever since that act, Maddin has been off-screen to sell the injury. Satin revealed that Joe would remain on commentary until he was cleared but also because Maddin still wanted to pursue an in-ring career. In his stead, Joe has quickly become one of the best commentators in all of wrestling. His knowledge of the game and delivery is a refreshing take on things.

While Joe will stay on commentary, it doesn't mean that he's done with in-ring action. He could easily start up a feud by attacking anyone on a given week. The former US Champ could also get the clearance before the Royal Rumble and return to action as a surprise entrant. When he makes his return, there will be numerous possible feuds for Joe like Humberto Carillo, Aleister Black, Erick Rowan, Buddy Murphy, Ricochet and many others. It just depends on if he's coming back as a threatening heel or a face.

Some injured stars merely stay off television until they are healthy, but that isn't the case with Samoa Joe. His talents extend far beyond the wrestling ring and we're lucky to have him call the action and give his insights on RAW.
