What’s the story?

During the latest installment of The Wrestling Observer Radio, respected Professional Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer shed some light on when we could expect a potential Universal Title defence from The Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar.

In case you didn’t know…

Lesnar captured the WWE Universal Championship way back at WrestleMania 33, when squared-off and defeated Goldberg in a rematch from Survivor Series 2016.

After successfully winning the Universal Championship last year at ‘Mania, Lesnar has gone on to successfully defend the belt against the likes of Samoa Joe, Braun Strowman, and Roman Reigns, who has now failed to slay The Beast Incarnate on two different occasions within the space of one month.

Earlier this month, Lesnar retained the Universal Title over Reigns in a gruelling manner and last night in Saudi Arabia, The Beast Incarnate once again conquered The Big Dog in a rematch at The Greatest Royal Rumble event, this time inside a gruesome Steel Cage.

The heart of the matter

Meltzer recently reported on The Wrestling Observer Radio that the apparent plans for Brock Lesnar’s next scheduled Universal Championship defence could take place within two months time.

He says that it could happen at this year’s WWE: Money in the Bank pay-per-view—which is now apparently being considered as one of the biggest PPVs’ of the calendar year.

According to Meltzer, he noted that Lesnar will indeed miss out on this year’s co-branded Backlash pay-per-view, which takes place next month at the Prudential Center.

However, the former UFC Heavyweight Champion will indeed make his return to the WWE around June, in order to once again put his Universal Championship on the line against a given opponent. (H/T: Ringside News)

“Since Lesnar’s not at Backlash it’s probably going to be Money In The Bank which is kind of considered one of their major pay-per-views now. So I would guess that will be the next one I don’t know what, I will try to find out the schedule. I’m sure they’re going to try to keep it somewhat secret.”- Dave Meltzer noted.

What’s next?

This year’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view will take place on the 17th of June, 2018, at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.

Author’s Take

Personally, I hope that Lesnar’s next title defense takes place against a different challenger, other than Reigns and as of right now, I do hope that we get to see the end of Brock Lesnar’s run as Universal Champion come 17 June, 2018.
