- I wanted to issue a correction and apology for an article posted here yesterday about the Paul Heyman DVD and Blu-ray, Ladies and Gentlemen, My Name is Paul Heyman. As noted, the DVD failed to crack the top 5 of the most shipped titles of the last nine months of 2014, despite being released last August. The title of the story - which has since been updated - stated that Heyman blamed WWE for "poor sales" of the DVD, which is not accurate. The DVD actually sold really well when it was released, however it was undershipped.
We reported days after the release of the DVD that fans were having trouble ordering it as it was sold out at many locations. It was even temporarily back-ordered on Amazon, which is the first time I had seen that happen with a new WWE release. The Blu-Ray also reached #1 on Amazon's best selling Blu-Ray list.
While several retailers re-stocked the DVD in mid-August, it again quickly sold out in most locations. After that, I hadn't heard of the DVD being re-shipped again. The documentary portion of the DVD was released on the WWE Network last December, just four months after it was released.
While we don't have final numbers for how many units of the DVD were shipped, it was less than 53,000, which is the number of units shipped for WCW's Greatest PPV Matches. The rest of the top 5 for the last nine months of 2014 were WrestleMania 30 (158,000), WWE Slam City (100,000), Ultimate Warrior: The Ultimate Collection (94,00) and The Best of Sting (73,000).
As noted, Heyman took to his Twitter to address the DVD not moving as many units as it should have.
"The DVD was dramatically underestimated and undershipped," Heyman wrote. "Once stores like Best Buy sold out, they were never replenished. Hundreds of complaints on this very timeline. They underestimated and then never addressed the 'discovered' demand. On this issue, I cannot ADVOCATE any defense 4 them. Missed opportunity. Happens in every company. Happened in this one."
After taking issue with our title, Heyman also tweeted:
. @WrestlingInc And just for the record, I stand by my statement, because it WAS underestimated and undershipped.
