Seth Rollins vs Sting for the WWE World title announced for Night of Champions

The huge match-up is now for the world title

Monday Night RAW saw the return of a few legendary superstars, the Dudley Boyz and ‘The Icon’ Sting.

While the Dudley’s have won the WWE tag team titles numerous times before, Sting has never even competed for the title and is only one match old in the WWE.

After Sting crashed the Authority’s party by taking down Seth and holding the world championship in the air, Triple H quickly, in the fallout of RAW, made the match between Seth Rollins and ‘The Vigilante’ Sting.

At first it wasn’t sure whether it was for the titles, but WWE posted a note on its website making it a World Heavyweight title match.

This is a huge announcement and it guarantees the Night Of Champions PPV to be one heck of an event. Its buy rates would also be high considering the announcement made early. For some reason the United States title is not on the line.

It would be amazing to see Sting be in the WWE ring in a World title match, something that was thought would never happen.

The WWE wrote this on their website to make Rollins vs Sting official:

“The Vigilante, Sting, is back, and he's coming for Seth Rollins' WWE World Heavyweight Title.

For the first time in his legendary career, The Man Called Sting will challenge for WWE's top prize, as he gets set to face The Architect Sunday, Sept. 20 at WWE Night of Champions, live on WWE Network... A six-time WCW World Champion, Sting has never before challenged for a title in WWE, let alone the WWE World Heavyweight Title, but he has been a recurring threat to The Authority. Starting with his WWE debut at last year's Survivor Series — during which he helped oust Triple H & Stephanie from power, albeit briefly—and culminating with his ruining of Rollins' celebration, Sting has repeatedly made his presence felt.

Will The Architect be able to survive The Vigilante's onslaught at Night of Champions? Or can The Icon add another accolade — the biggest in all of sports-entertainment — to his incredible resume, transforming the state of WWE as we know it?

Watch this historic showdown when it airs live at Night of Champions Sunday, Sept. 20, only on the award-winning WWE Network.
