Seth Rollins suffers serious knee injury, WWE issues official statement, new Survivor Series plans and more
In what comes as a huge blow for Seth Rollins and the WWE, Seth Rollins suffered a serious knee injury during last night’s live event in Dublin which would keep him out for a duration of 6-9 months.
‘The Architect’ suffered a torn ACL, MCL and medial meniscus, which are very serious injuries, that would keep him sidelined for the next few months. The unfortunate injury has forced him to vacate and relinquish the title, which has pushed WWE to change their Survivor Series plans involving the World Heavyweight title.
WWE has now announced a tournament at Survivor Series to decide the new World Heavyweight Champion. WWE issued a statement on Rollins’s injury and also gave a brief of the tournament, whose participants would be revealed in the weeks to come. Below is the WWE’s announcement:
WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins was set to defend his title against his former Shield “brother” Roman Reigns in a head-to-head battle at Survivor Series, but after Rollins suffered an injury that will keep him out of action for six to nine months, WWE’s most prized possession will now be on the line in a historic tournament.
ESPN first broke the news on Twitter that WWE’s top titleholder suffered tears to his ACL/MCL/medial meniscus while performing at WWE Live Event in Dublin, Ireland. As a result, Survivor Series will host a tournament to crown a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Which Superstars will be participating in this epic event? Will the current No. 1 contender, Roman Reigns, be involved? How many other Superstars will get a chance to win WWE’s top prize? How will the contenders be decided? All these questions and more will be answered as we get closer to the must-see event.
Don’t miss Survivor Series on Sunday, Nov. 22, as history will be made in a WWE World Heavyweight Championship Tournament, live on the award-winning WWE Network.
Rollins and WWE included would be saddened by the unfortunate chain of events as they would now have to resort to last minute change in plans. Below is the video from the live event that caused the injury:
Although the participants for the tournament to decide the new WWE Champion have not been revealed yet, expect WWE to put light on the situation in the coming episode of RAW. This ends Rollins lengthy title run, an end that is most unfortunate and something that he might not have foreseen. His fellow WWE stars reacted to his injury on Twitter and below are some of the tweets:
This puts Reigns the most likely candidate to walk out of Survivor Series with the belt around his waist. In any case, Rollins’s will now be on the sidelines for quite some time and we wish him a speedy recovery and an even quicker return to in-ring action.
