Baszler could spark a change in the Women's Division

What's the story?

Shayna Baszler won the WWE NXT Women's Championship last night at NXT Takeover: New Orleans following her victory over Ember Moon, and the former MMA star has now promised that she will change the face of the NXT Women's' Division.

In case you didn't know...

Baszler has been a dominant star on the NXT brand ever since she made her debut and has made a beeline for the Women's Championship over the past few months.

She has had a different approach to the wrestling business by proving that she can overcome the odds without being the quintessential female wrestler that WWE has been pushing over the past few decades.

Baszler has shown that she can rise to the top without being flashy because she has only ever depended on herself in the ring and the arsenal of submission moves that she has at her disposal.

The heart of the matter

She dislocated her shoulder in her match against Ember Moon last night at Takeover: New Orleans and was able to click it back into place using the ring post before she forced Moon to pass out when she locked in the Kirifuda Clutch.

Baszler becomes just the seventh Women's Champion and following her victory she promised change in the NXT Women's Division.

It seems that Baszler will now usher in a new era in the Division where it is now about pure wrestling.

The NXT Women's Division was where the Women's Division was originally kickstarted and it seems that this could be another step in the right direction for the women.

What's next?

Moon has a contractual rematch that she will be wanting to cash in soon, but following this match, Baszler could move on to much bigger challenges and Moon could be promoted to the main roster.

Author's take

Baszler has been a dominant force for a number of months in the Women's Division and after being the runner-up in the Mae Young Classic, it seems that she has finally been able to pick up her first real accolade in the wrestling business.

This could be the start of a huge change and it is exactly what the Women's Division needs.
