Sheamus: Rise of the Irish Backbreaker

With the Money in the Bank pay-per-view looming over our heads on the 14th of July, the return of Rob Van Dam to the WWE has its own spice to it, but the un-predictability of the Money in the Bank Match, the steel ladders banging against wrestler’s bodies, the high risk maneuvers off the top of ladders, will keep us on the edge of our seats.

The previous Money In The Bank PPVs have given us matches that no other WWE PPV can provide. The expectations from this Money in the Bank PPV are tremendous, just like every year’s Money in The Bank, and the return of RVD is just the icing on the cake.

The match makes up for a pretty promising one, with seven former WWE Champions competing for the Money in The Bank contract for a shot at the WWE title – CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Kane, Randy Orton, Sheamus, Christian and Rob Van Dam.

CM Punk has recently fallen out with Paul Heyman, so with his wounds still raw, would he be able to conquer this big shot with no longer being a ‘Paul Heyman Guy?’ Kane has fallen out with Daniel Bryan, so both of them would be going after each other, rather than having their eye on the prize and with Randy Orton in the mix, they make the perfect trio of destruction in the ring, but with no zeal to win.

That leaves Christian, Rob Van Dam and Sheamus to give us one of the great matches of their time. RVD and Christian have just made their entries back into the WWE; Christian from a long term shoulder injury and RVD from his spell of wrestling at TNA. But would both of them be able to cope with the thrashing power of the 3rd generation superstars?

Or Would Sheamus be the one to steal the show? I’d say he’s got a pretty fair chance; math says the probability of him winning is one-sixth, but I’d say he’s a far more balanced wrestler than many of the people in that ring, and his chances of winning are healthy.

Sheamus is a pretty good in-ring competitor, with a couple of grappling and high risk maneuvers up his sleeves. Over the past 3 years of his WWE career, he has made quite the name for himself as a force to be reckoned with. He beat John Cena for the WWE Championship back in his day at the TLC PPV, and has also been a two-time World Heavyweight champion – so he’s pretty much in the mix with all the wrestlers competing for that Money in the Bank contract.

He’s had a pretty good relation with Randy Orton, so you could expect them to team up and take on the rest, but in the end it all comes down to that one man who can take those 18 steps up the ladder to unlock that Money in the Bank briefcase. Sheamus would want to replace John Cena as the WWE Champion as soon as he could, unless Mark Henry takes over that spot. The constant spark between Mark Henry and Sheamus is still alive, and we’re all expecting it to be re-ignited sooner rather than later.

Sheamus has a very strong chance to steal the show. His ability and his strength will play a clinical role in a match that tests not only the strategy of a wrestler, but also his capacity of bearing a beat down, and in this form of a match, anyone can steal the show.

Sheamus could be a strong competitor to get behind all the upcoming challenges that he would face and walk out of Philadelphia with his head held high with the Money in the Bank contract, or even the WWE championship (If he chooses to cash in his Contract the same night) held tightly between his strong Irish Hands.
