SK Exclusive: Current plans for AJ Styles and why he didn't move to Raw
What’s the story?
Lots of things were planned for AJ Styles on Raw, such as a US Title feud with Kevin Owens, a match with Brock Lesnar and a reunion with Gallows and Anderson. However, in the end, the decision to keep him on SmackDown, ultimately came down to how the WWE wanted to handle one man, that being their priority project, Roman Reigns.
In case you didn't know...
AJ Styles remained on SD Live after last weeks "Superstar Shake-up" despite being heavily touted to be going to Raw by Dave Meltzer and many other wrestling news sites.
The heart of the matter
Despite fans missing out on what the WWE had planned for AJ on Raw, they should be more happy with what AJ will now end up doing on SD Live. Fans are still going to get the Kevin Owens US Title feud, as the WWE decided to have the have the program on SD Live.
In addition to that, rather than seeing Styles come up short against Brock Lesnar on Raw, fans will see Styles successfully recapture the WWE Championship. As if that wasn't enough, the WWE are is also planning a Styles and Nakamura feud, which should culminate at WrestleMania 34.
What's next?
AJ is the now the No.1 contender for the US Title on Raw and will begin his program with Kevin Owens after Owens retains his title against Chris Jericho.
Author's take
AJ Styles will benefit from remaining with the writers that have used him so well over the last 8 months. Despite the fact we won't see a Club reunion or a match against Brock Lesnar, I am more excited about seeing AJ against Nakamura than I am about seeing Styles used as a stepping stone to Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34.
The WWE should book Styles vs. Nakamura for WrestleMania 34 to compensate for the fans likely indifference towards the controversial Lesnar vs. Reigns encounter.
