SK Exclusive: Dean Ambrose vs Baron Corbin was supposed to be the first ever fork-lift match; spoilers on who is scheduled to win

Corbin’s rise will continue at WrestleMania

What's the story?

Dean Ambrose was supposed to beat Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 33 in the first ever forklift match. However, those plans have now been scrapped.

In case you didn't know...

WrestleMania commonly has a number of gimmick matches, and Ambrose and Corbin looked certain to wrestle a match with a stipulation because of the build-up.

Especially, after Baron Corbin used a folk-lift on Dean Ambrose, it seemed highly unlikely that WWE was building towards a standard wrestling match.

The Heart of the Matter

According to my sources, the decision to scrap the folk-lift match was made two months ago when it was decided that Corbin would leave Orlando as the Intercontinental Champion. Original plans called for Ambrose to win and prolong the feud past WrestleMania. The latest plans are still that Ambrose will win this match.

WWE officials felt that a folk-lift match had to be won by a babyface. The rules of the forklift match were set to be similar to a WWE stretcher match where you have to beat your opponent by wheeling him away on a stretcher. Set design may have also been another factor that played into the WWE's decision to abort the match.

What's next?

Dean Ambrose will defend his Intercontinental Title against Baron Corbin this Sunday at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando, FL.

Author's Take

The IC title is being wasted right now on Ambrose. Corbin made his presence known one year ago at WrestleMania and should walk out of Orlando with one of the company’s most prestigious titles.

The storyline indicated that we were heading towards a stipulation match.  The Lone Wolf has improved a lot as a performer in the last 12 months. He has used Talking Smack effectively to establish the legitimacy of his heel character. Corbin comes across as the most believable heel in WWE, and I would like to seem him rewarded this Sunday by taking the IC Title from a stale Dean Ambrose.
