SK's Take: Possible Reason Why Charlotte Flair Lost The SmackDown Live Women's Title
At WrestleMania 34 Charlotte successfully defended her SmackDown Live Women's Title by shocking the world and ending Asuka's two-year undefeated streak in a fantastic match, forcing the 'Empress of Tomorrow' to tap out in the middle of the ring.
Two days later on SmackDown Live, Charlotte was attacked by Peyton Royce and Billie Kay, now known as The Iconics, making their main roster debut. They brutalized Charlotte in a prolonged and sustained attack.
After their attack was done, Carmella's music hit and the 'Princess of Staten Island' ran down to the ring and successfully cashed in her MITB contract by defeating Charlotte and becoming the new SmackDown Live Women's Champion.
The initial reaction to this is one of confusion. Why would WWE have Charlotte end a two year unbeaten streak to defend her title only to have her lose it two days later against someone like Carmella who hasn't been a legitimate threat for months?
But what if this is all part of the plan? There have been reports that the WWE are looking at Charlotte vs Ronda Rousey to main event WrestleMania 35 and this could be the start of how we get there.
On Monday Night Raw, the WWE announced a Superstar-Shakeup for next week's episodes of SmackDown and Raw. So what if Charlotte dropped the SmackDown Title because she's on her way to Monday Night Raw.
This would make sense because then Charlotte would be on the same brand as both Ronda Rousey and Asuka, who is also rumoured to be part of the first-ever women's main event at WrestleMania 35. Then you could build a prolonged programme between the three women to create a feud worthy of a 'Mania main event.
I don't know how feasible this actually is but all of the pieces make sense in my head so we'll have to wait until next week to see if Charlotte does end up on Monday Night Raw, perhaps it'll even mean she doesn't get her rematch for the title and we move forward.
