SK's Take: Could Jinder Mahal and Rob Gronkowski be on a collision course for WrestleMania?
What's the story?
WrestleMania is an entertainment spectacle where celebrities get involved, sometimes physically. After Super Bowl XLII ended on Sunday evening, a tweet from Jinder Mahal and a news story regarding New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski could signify a match between these two in New Orleans, Louisiana at WrestleMania 34.
In case you didn't know...
At the end of the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal last year at WrestleMania 33, the final two competitors were Jinder Mahal and Mojo Rawley. Jinder would get in the face of Gronk at ringside and throw a drink on him.
Gronk would get in the ring and lay out Jinder with a tackle, leading to Mojo dumping Jinder over the top rope to win the match.
The heart of the matter
The Philadelphia Eagles denied the New England Patriots from winning their sixth Super Bowl in team history, which would have tied them for the most all-time with the Pittsburgh Steelers. After Super Bowl XLII was over, Jinder Mahal would post the following on Twitter...
The Providence Journal would also report that Gronk didn't commit to playing in the NFL beyond this year after the Super Bowl. Pro Football Talk also tweeted before the game, that there are rumors swirling around that Gronk is playing his last game on Sunday.
When asked the question about retirement, Gronk looked surprised and replied:
“I don’t know how you heard that, but I mean, I’m definitely going to look at my future, for sure. I’ll sit down in the next couple of weeks and see where I’m at.”
Throughout the year, Jinder has teased that the feud with Gronk is not over. Sunday's tweet definitely adds fuel to the fire of a potential match at WrestleMania. Gronk actually having a match would definitely get a lot of casual people to tune in to see.
What's next?
Stay tuned to Sportskeeda for further developments on this potential match. Next up for the WWE is Monday Night Raw when it takes place near Seth Rollins' hometown in Des Moines, Iowa.
Author's take
I think this is a perfect match that is made for WrestleMania. When Lawrence Taylor got in the ring to take on Bam Bam Bigelow, it garnered a lot of attention.
In this day and age, Gronk having his first match in the WWE would set social media on fire, get the attention of news outlets worldwide. Two things that Vince McMahon definitely would love to see for WrestleMania.
