The American Nightmare to join Roman Reigns' Bloodline at Survivor Series? - 4 things Cody Rhodes can do on WWE SmackDown this week
WWE Friday Night SmackDown will be airing tomorrow on the USA Network. Two big title matches have been announced for the show, with The Street Profits challenging Motor City Machine Guns and Nia Jax defending her championship against Naomi.
Beyond those bouts, not much else has been confirmed for the show. Still, there are some things that will almost certainly take place. Build towards Survivor Series WarGames will be presented, the ongoing Bloodline saga will continue, and Cody Rhodes will likely appear. The American Nightmare is the World Champion of the blue brand and has been since WrestleMania earlier this year.
This article will take a look at a handful of things that Rhodes could potentially do when he inevitably appears on SmackDown this Friday. This includes a big match being made, an open challenge being held, and uniting with his major foe yet again.
Below are four things Cody Rhodes can do at WWE SmackDown.
#4. Cody Rhodes could join Roman Reigns' Bloodline team in WarGames
Triple H brought back the WarGames concept to NXT and has since brought it to the main roster. Survivor Series: WarGames will air later this month and it will feature both a men's version and a women's version of the gimmick match.
The Men's WarGames Match will see Roman Reigns team up with Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Sami Zayn, and an unknown partner. They will take on Solo Sikoa's Bloodline, which includes Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, Jacob Fatu, and another unnamed star. So far, Team Roman is struggling to find a fifth man.
That could change come WWE SmackDown. Cody and Roman, despite their history together, teamed up at Bad Blood. Rhodes is also friends with both Jey and Sami. As a result, Cody could join the OG Bloodline Survivor Series team for one night.
#3. He could jump Kevin Owens
While Cody Rhodes has no clear opponent for Survivor Series WarGames, he is involved in a storyline. This hot angle on WWE SmackDown involves his former friend Kevin Owens. Owens shockingly assaulted Rhodes after he teamed up with Roman Reigns at Bad Blood.
Despite the issues between the two, Kevin's focus shifted to Randy Orton. He jumped The Viper and they had a brawl at Crown Jewel. Things then went insane at WWE SmackDown last week when Owens hit Orton with a Piledriver, sending The Legend Killer to the hospital.
Cody has to be furious at Owens' actions, both because of how he has been a target, but also because his mentor was hospitalized. As a result, Cody could fight Kevin on SmackDown. He could jump KO backstage or in the ring, doing anything he can to punish The Prizefighter.
#2. Cody could have an open challenge for his Undisputed WWE Championship
As noted, Cody Rhodes is the Undisputed WWE Champion. He actually won the belt by defeating Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL. Rhodes has since successfully defended it against the likes of Kevin Owens, AJ Styles, Solo Sikoa, and others.
Unfortunately, there is no clear challenger for The American Nightmare's title now. Nobody is an official number-one contender. Taking matters into his own hands, Cody could decide to shake things up on SmackDown.
He could hold an Undisputed WWE Championship Open Challenge to anyone backstage. The likes of Carmelo Hayes, Andrade, Giovanni Vinci, Tommaso Ciampa, or even Jacob Fatu could step up and accept the chance of a lifetime.
#1. He could challenge Kevin Owens to a match at Survivor Series: WarGames
While Cody Rhodes has no clear number-one contender, a match for him at Survivor Series: WarGames could be in the works. The American Nightmare could end up fighting Kevin Owens at the premium live event.
This article has already outlined their issues, but so far, the two haven't really been able to fight since Kevin laid Cody out. Security, management, and even Randy Orton have all managed to get themselves in the middle of the two.
As a result, Rhodes could take a measured approach and make a challenge. He could offer Kevin Owens a chance at his title again, but this time, they will have a Street Fight or a No Disqualification Match. This could be an epic fight and one that fans will never forget. Cody might just make it happen if he challenges KO on SmackDown.
