The biggest winners and losers from last night's SmackDown (June 4)

SmackDown is beginning to scrape the bottom of the barrel. What was usually a good show last year has joined Monday Night Raw as being among the worst on television. The "Wild Card" rule has muddied the waters of both shows and rendered WWE's ability to tell a story, which was already questionable beforehand, totally impotent.

Instead, everything in the post-Wild Card world is done for ad-hoc purposes, even more than previously. It took its toll on SmackDown last night, as "Wild Card" nonsense and the desperate bid for ratings with old-timers took up most of SmackDown.

Things are circling the drain fast. Did anyone escape?

Losers: Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn

Stuff like this is why so many people are considered "buried" after merely one loss. Having failed to capture the WWE Championship at Money in the Bank, Kevin Owens is now losing in random tag team matches with Sami Zayn, who is supposedly on Raw, to build heat for an obvious filler match between Kofi Kingston and Dolph Ziggler.

Ziggler's promo a couple of weeks ago was good, but the one he cut last night was decidedly not. Presumably, he'll be gone again after this Friday. And what did Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn gain out of all this? Nothing but a defeat from the New Day in a random tag team match.

This is why everybody feels the same, nobody feels like a star, and ultimately, why ratings and interest in the WWE product is at an all time low.

After these past two nights, it seems clear to me that the competition is going to be between NXT and AEW. The main roster product has never felt more missable or irrelevant. Witness the sad, fast descent of the SmackDown brand.
