The impact of DDP Yoga on the WWE Superstars
Diamond Dallas Page (DDP), best known for his time in WCW, has become the savior of multiple former and current WWE wrestlers with the help of his revolutionary yoga which he has named “DDP Yoga.” It is not just the usual yoga but also includes cardio exercises to strengthen the body, and this particular aspect has helped those wrestlers who are on the verge of retiring to continue their pro wrestling career.
Remember the time when CM Punk and Chris Jericho were building up their feud for WrestleMania XXVIII? It was during this period that Punk commented on Jericho’s DDP Yoga programme, he said: “[Chris] does DDP Yoga and that’s not even real yoga. This isn’t a front on Diamond Dallas Page – nice guy and all that, but whatever…” Jericho’s reply to Punk would certainly increase one’s faith in DDP Yoga: “All I know is that DDP Yoga works for me,” he explained. “It’s the best training I’ve had in my life and it’s funny how I’ve been wrestling 10 years longer than CM Punk, but he’s the one who’s always walking around with more ice on him than an eskimo in February. I’m pain-free.“
Jericho turned 43 last November and in this age people usually consider retirement, but in his last run with the company, this man wrestled like a guy 10 years younger, which was evident in his matches with Rob Van Dam, CM Punk, Alberto Del Rio, etc., delivering lengthier and entertaining matches. Jericho has said it himself that DDP Yoga has helped him in achieving this fitness.
Goldust, 44, is another wrestler who has been helped by DDP Yoga. He said: “With DDP Yoga, there are a couple benefits. I stand up straighter now, and I can bend in ways I couldn’t bend. I feel so much better: my joints, muscles, and bones. It is awesome.” Many people thought that Goldust’s career is over, but then he returned with a bang, fought with the toughest and youngest wrestlers such as Randy Orton, The Shield and The Wyatt Family, performed better than many other young wrestlers in the company and even won the Tag Team Championship with his brother, Cody Rhodes. DDP Yoga has indeed added some more years in the pro wrestling career of these superstars who are in their 40s.
One particular wrestler who has been benefited a lot by DDP Yoga is the legendary Jake “The Snake” Roberts, who also made a rare appearance on last week’s Old School Raw. Roberts said: “I lost 65 pounds. But more importantly, I’ve added this important thing back into my life called hope. I had given up hope. I was just waiting to die. I was just praying for it, man. But now, each day, I wake up and I look myself in the mirror and I’m like, Wow, I actually have something going on.” In a recent interview with WWE.com, Roberts talked about his wish to be in the ring one more time, and with the recent fitness that he has achieved through DDP Yoga, a return to the ring seems more realistic than ever before, at the Royal Rumble match maybe? You can even see Roberts sporting a DDP Yoga T-shirt quite often, which highlights the fact that DDP Yoga indeed had an impact on Roberts’ life.
Other superstars who have been helped by DDP Yoga includes legends like Scott Hall, Edge and Rob Van Dam, former wrestlers like Perry Saturn, Ray “Glacier” Lloyd, Marc Mero, and Shad Gaspard and current wrestlers like Primo, Titus O’Neil and Ryback.
We would definitely like to see The Undertaker try it out, maybe then he will be able to wrestle more every year.
