The New Day to break up after losing; ex-WWE Champion to announce his retirement? - 5 Things that could happen on their 10th Anniversary show
WWE Monday Night RAW has been one of the biggest shows on television since 1993. While the program will soon move to a streaming service, Netflix, instead of traditional cable, big episodes are still on the horizon.
For example, it was recently announced that there will be a special edition of Monday Night RAW celebrating 10 years of The New Day. Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods debuted as a trio on the November 28, 2014, edition of SmackDown, and now World Wrestling Entertainment plans to celebrate the occasion.
For now, it isn't clear what week the special dedication to the group will be on, nor what the plans are to celebrate it. Regardless, this is a big-time show, and fans are excited. Naturally, many wonder what may go down on this special edition of RAW. This article will look at a handful of options, including a heartbreaking heel turn and a surprise comeback.
Below are five things that could happen on The New Day's 10th Anniversary show.
#5. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods could win the World Tag Team Title
No matches or segments have been announced yet for whenever this special celebration for The New Day will take place. However, if WWE wanted to make it truly special, they could book a major title match.
The New Day's Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods could have a shot at the World Tag Team Championship currently held by Finn Balor and JD McDonagh. This could mean that Woods and Kingston may win gold on their anniversary.
Of course, The Judgment Day stars have other challengers in The War Raiders, who recently became the number one contenders for the World Tag Team Championship. This bout could come first, or the winners of that match could face The New Day. Regardless, a big title match on their anniversary would be a fitting move.
#4. Big E could return as their manager
Modern WWE fans may know The New Day as a two-man tag team, but that isn't the group's origins. Instead, for years, It was a trio: Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Big E.
Unfortunately, Big E suffered a serious injury on an episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown in 2022. Almost three years later, the former world champion has yet to return to the ring, but there is hope he'll mount a comeback.
In the meantime, Big E could appear on the anniversary special and announce that he will serve as Kofi and Xavier's manager for now. This would bring the trio back together, offer E a television role, and hopefully fix any lingering issues between Kingston and Woods.
#3. The New Day could agree to split up amicably
The New Day has always been known to have each other's backs, but things have taken a turn recently. For some reason, there has been a lot of tension between Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods on WWE RAW.
Some blame Karrion Kross and The Final Testament for this, believing maybe they got into Woods' head. Other WWE fans think Xavier is frustrated by his lack of success in singles competition compared to his teammates. Regardless, many fear they are going to break up.
However, instead of some dramatic breakup, where somebody turns on the other, the two could shake things up. Kofi and Xavier could decide to amicably split up, agreeing that, for right now, things aren't working. They could then focus on singles success but part as friends instead of with drama.
#2. Big E could announce his retirement from WWE
As noted, Big E suffered a serious injury a few years ago. During a match on the March 11, 2022, edition of SmackDown, Ridge Holland delivered a Belly-To-Belly Overhead Suplex to the former WWE Champion outside the ring. E landed on his neck and has since gone on to have neck surgery.
While fans and Big E have hoped he would fully recover, there have been delays and complications. The unfortunate reality is that there is a very real chance the former WWE Champion will never return to the ring and will have to retire as an active competitor.
This could play into what might happen on the special New Day Anniversary. Big E could return to RAW to announce the unfortunate news that he'll be unable to return to the ring. While this would be crushing for everybody, especially him, it could be what goes down.
#1. Xavier Woods could turn on Kofi Kingston
The final possibility outlined on this list might be the one WWE fans believe is most likely to happen. Come the Monday Night RAW celebration of The New Day, Xavier Woods might turn heel.
As noted, he has had a bad attitude for a while now. Woods has snapped at the Latino World Order, Odyssey Jones, and even Kingston himself. He is frustrated and angry, and that ill temper might lead to a heel turn.
It would be heartbreaking for the betrayal to happen on the 10th anniversary special show, but it may be exactly what happens. Woods and Kingston might celebrate together before Xavier Woods brutally assaults Kofi, perhaps leaving him a bloody mess in the process.
