Opinion: The rumored Kevin Owens v. Daniel Bryan match at WrestleMania 35 is not the right path to do down

The latest rumor going around is that Daniel Bryan will be facing a returning superstar this year at WrestleMania 35 for the WWE Championship. The rumor also states that as of now, the plan is for that returning superstar to be Kevin Owens. If these rumors are true, then this is not the right path to go down.

There are two problems with the Owens/Bryan matchup. The first problem is that the last time we saw Owens, he was attacked and took out by Bobby Lashley, as well as Sami Zayn, who is also set to return soon. The logical choice would be to have Owens face off against Lashley and get his revenge, or you can have Owens and Zayn team up to take on Lashley and Lio Rush. Is this the sexy, cool choice? No, but it is the one that makes the most sense since fans probably haven't forgotten that Lashley is the reason Owens has been on the shelf for months.

The second issue with the match would be that Owens is still a RAW superstar, not on Smackdown, even though in his return vignettes he mentioned that the McMahons haven't told him whether or not he is returning to RAW or Smackdown. It feels like WWE is slowly killing off that brand split again as there are no more brand exclusive Pay Per Views and superstars have been turning up on opposite brands without explanation. A perfect example of this is Big Show, who was on RAW when he was defeated in a Steel Cage Match and destroyed by Braun Strowman.

The next time we saw him he was son Smackdown teaming with the Bar for no reason or explanation was given for him being on Smackdown. Another example is Becky Lynch and Charlotte, who have both been appearing on RAW and Smackdown since the Royal Rumble, even though this one makes a bit more sense since it involves Ronda Rousey, who is on RAW. It is also important to remember that Owens was "banished" from Smackdown after last year's WrestleMania when he and Zayn lost to Shane McMahon and Bryan.

Although an Owens v. Bryan match for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania would be an amazing match, given the current storylines and timing it just wouldn't make sense. There are only four episodes of Smackdown between Fastlane and WrestleMania to build an Owens/Bryan feud, which wouldn't leave much time to build. Plus, what are they going to feud about? The fact that Owens eats junk food (as seen in his vignettes)> Doesn't seem really appealing.
