The Shield or the Wyatt Family: Which group has made a bigger impact in the WWE?

Last year, WWE Universe witnessed the debut of two of the best groups in WWE’s recent history, these are The Shield and the Wyatt Family. These two groups are significantly different from each other, while The Shield has three young, charismatic and talented wrestlers, the Wyatt Family consists of three monster-sized and weird ones. But, there is one thing common between them, they both have dominated the WWE since their arrival.

“The Hounds of Justice” made their WWE debut at the 2012 Survivor Series, where they interfered in the ongoing triple threat match for CM Punk‘s WWE Championship as they power bombed Ryback through the announcers’ table. This was the first of their several displays of destruction since their debut. They brought every top superstar in the company down to their knees, be it John Cena, Randy Orton, CM Punk or Daniel Bryan, no one could escape the wrath of The Shield. These three then went on to win the United States Championship (Dean Ambrose) and the Tag Team Championship (Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns), as they remained unpinned/unsubmitted in the WWE until June 14, when they lost a 6-man tag team match against Team Hell No and Randy Orton.

The Wyatt Family made their WWE debut on the July 8 episode of Raw, as they went on to assault Kane. Unlike. The Shield, Wyatt Family’s victims have usually been mid-card wrestlers such as R-Truth and Kofi Kingston, but they have always tried to recruit top stars like Daniel Bryan and Kane, by telling them to “follow the buzzards.” The Shield were defeated 6 months after their WWE debut but the Wyatt family lost their first match (against Cody Rhodes and Goldust) after just 3 months. Also, Wyatt Family hasn’t won any championship so far. So, the Wyatt Family have been less impressive?

Looking at these comparisons, we get a clear winner in The Shield, but winning championships isn’t the reason why Wyatt Family came into existence. They defeated the Tag Team Champions, Cody Rhodes and Goldust, and this won could have easily earned them a shot at the tag titles, but the Wyatt Family chose to recruit Daniel Bryan instead. Wyatt family has a proper leader in Bray Wyatt who always decides the next step for his group, unlike The Shield who don’t have a clear leader. Its members have argued several times among themselves over who is the leader of the group, but there has never been a clear outcome. The Shield’s gimmick was of a group of wrestlers who vowed to fight ‘injustice,’ and so they called themselves “The Hounds of Justice.” But, with time they have forgot the purpose of “The Shield” apparently and had disputes among their group.

Unlike The Shield, the Wyatt Family has maintained their gimmick of creepy “buzzards,” who haven’t stopped telling wrestlers like Daniel Bryan and Kane  to “follow” them since day one. One more thing is that the Wyatt Family have remained united since day one, there haven’t been any disputes among this group’s members, except for the betrayal of Daniel Bryan.

So, while The Shield have been dominating everybody and accomplishing titles and Slammy awards, the Wyatt Family has remained focused on their task of recruiting superstars to their group. So, both these groups have made an impact in the WWE in their own way.

Unfortunately, both these groups have been dealing with some problems this year so far, The Shield’s members are having ego issues (which has hinted at their impending break-up), whereas the Wyatt Family are dealing with the betrayal of Daniel Bryan, and it looks like only time will decide which one of these two trios hold on as a “group” longer.
