The WWE universe hating Randy Orton is a good thing
It is no secret that most fans hate Randy Orton, but is that a good thing? Doesn’t that mean he is being effective in his role as WWE’s resident villain? Is it him we really hate, or is it the gimmick he is portraying?
I join most fans in the belief that Randy Orton is a very boring talent to watch. His matches just lack energy and exciting conclusions that make the match worth watching. Other fans however, find him dry and uninteresting cutting promos on the microphone, I however do not share this belief at all.
Orton’s matches may not have much appeal to me. It may just be that my tastes are different from other fans, but for fans to say Orton is boring on the microphone is a total injustice! Thinks about it. Orton comes out every week on Raw and complains to The Authority about the matches he’s put in, or whines about his title defenses at upcoming pay per views, and we hate it! Almost every fan in the WWE Universe right now can admit that we hate this man being our champion.
Think back to how he won the title in the first place! Orton cashed in his Money in The Bank briefcase on fan favorite, Daniel Bryan, ruining many fans celebration of their new champion at Summerslam. The WWE put Orton in this position to be hated, and that is exactly what we are giving him.
Personally, I am tired of everyone saying Orton is a boring champion. If he was a boring champion, we wouldn’t be commenting. We wouldn’t be complaining! There would be no reaction at all! But yet, we find it in ourselves to give a reaction. If something or someone was boring, we wouldn’t react! But week after week The WWE Universe boos this man on every Raw and Smackdown.
Yes, there are many other top talents in The WWE that we would like to see as our Champion instead. I know the obvious choices would be Daniel Bryan, John Cena, Dolph Ziggler or even Roman Reigns, but this only solidifies the amazing hate factor that Orton possesses as a heel. Tension is being built week after week within The WWE Universe. They desperately are craving someone to take the belt off of Orton, making every upcoming pay per view must see TV!
It’s like what The WWE did with The Shield’s program with The Wyatt Family Monday night on Raw. They built up the tension, having The Shield come back to ringside to meet The Wyatt Family face to face. The segment was built up slowly, with each team sending members to the ring apron one by one. The Universe chanted in intense anticipation for the two foes to clash just weeks before their scheduled match at The Elimination Chamber, but The WWE decided to build the feud up instead, by having the Wyatt Family break the tension and retreat back to the locker room.
Another example is Big Show’s feud last winter with Triple H and The Authority. When the storyline first began after Summerslam. Big Show, along with many other superstars were subjected to cruel and brutal treatment at the hand of The Authority.
Big Show became Triple H’s corporate puppet, as he was often asked to do his and Stephanie McMahon’s evil bidding on a weekly basis. Big Show continuously showed remorse for his repeated actions against his fellow superstars, even crying as he hit Dusty Rhodes with The K.O punch at Stephanie McMahon’s order.
During this feud, it was teased multiple times that Big Show would stand up to The Authority, and lay Triple H out with a K.O Punch of his own. Tension continued to mount week after week, with Big Show coming dangerously close to knocking his boss out cold with one punch to the face.
The WWE Universe finally got their payout in early October, when Big Show surprised the crowd after the Main Event and knocked Triple H out cold. The fans in the arena stood in awe and applause, as they witnessed someone finally knock The Authority down a peg or two.
The WWE is all about building up suspenseful reactions for fans. Just because we dislike Orton as a character, doesn’t mean The WWE should just have him drop the belt to Daniel Bryan. If Daniel Bryan wins the title right now, what will The Universe have to cheer about then? Nothing, because the payout will be over!
The company is currently riding a huge wave of momentum with the status quo. I know some of the product may seem boring at times, but is it really or boredom, or are we just unhappy with how slow the buildup has been until fans finally get their wanted payout?
For fans that are bored with the current product and with Orton as WWE World Heavyweight Champion, I suggest just waiting for things to change. The WWE knows that fans are waiting anxiously for this the flow of power to be shifted back to the baby faces and hero’s of the company, and that’s what makes the product, including Randy Orton, more interesting to watch than ever before!
