This day in Pro Wrestling history - 11th April: Edge announces his retirement
Today marks the sixth year of Edge’s retirement from professional wrestling due to a neck injury. While the term ‘has done it all’ is often cliched, it is actually true when it comes to Edge’s WWE career.
Edge has won all the major titles in the WWE. He is an 11-time World Champion, 14-time Tag team Champion, 5-time Intercontinental Champion, United States Champion, first ever Money in the Bank winner, Royal Rumble winner, WrestleMania main eventer, WWE Triple Crown winner and WWE Grandslam winner. The accolades are endless.
Edge married former WWE Diva and future Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix in 2016 and the couple has two children.
Apart from occasional WWE appearances, Edge has also forged himself a serious acting career. He has appeared in an award nominated recurring role in the popular TV Series ‘Haven’, and has also had appearances in ‘The Flash’ and ‘Vikings’.
#1 Edge retires as World Champion – 11th April 2011
No one could have seen it coming – Adam ‘Edge’ Copeland was still on top of his game and had successfully defended his World Heavyweight title at WrestleMania a week earlier.
But Edge had been having neck issues for a long time and further tests after WrestleMania showed that he would be risking paralysis if he continued wrestling.
The diagnosis left Edge with no choice and the Rated R Superstar walked on to the 11th April 2011 edition of RAW to announce his retirement. Edge would have the finest retirement ever as he was still the World Heavyweight Champion when he announced his decision.

Edge would marry former WWE Diva and fellow WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix.
