This day in Pro Wrestling history - 23rd November
22 years ago on this day, Hollywood would make one of its many visits to a WWE PPV. Actor and Martial Artist Chuck Norris would be the one to grace Survivor Series 1994 as the special guest referee in the main event.
The celebrity culture would continue throughout the years, with Mike Tyson’s appearance at Wrestlemania 14 being hailed as the greatest attempt by pro-wrestling to crossover to mainstream United States’ imagination.
On the flipside, WCW's decision to put their World title on actor David Arquette is still considered as the worst booking decisions in pro-wrestling history.
So what did Mr.Norris do at Survivor Series? And on a separate note, do Scott Hall and Chris Jericho want to remember the events that took place at 23rd November or not?
#1 Scott Hall wins World War 3 – 23rd November 1997
1997 was a solid year for WCW and the company presented its annual World War 3 PPV from The Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
Each World War 3 PPV would be centred around a huge 3-ring, 60-man Battle Royal. When half of the wrestlers were eliminated, the final 30 would move into the centre ring and would continue the match. The winner would earn a shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.
The 1997 event would see the victory of Scott Hall as Kevin Nash – disguised as Sting – would eliminate the Giant to leave ‘The Bad Guy’ as the sole legal man left in the ring. Hall would lose his title shot to the new WCW Champion Sting at Uncensored 1998.
