TNA/WWE News: Bobby Lashley wants an MMA fight with Brock Lesnar
Two of the most athletically gifted men to every grace the squared circle in professional wrestling may soon be throwing down inside the cage of mixed martial arts (MMA). At least that’s what Bobby Lashley wants.
The TNA champ and Bellator MMA heavyweight competitor, recently caught up with TMZ to discuss his fighting future, after his most recent victory over Josh Appelt at this past weekend’s Bellator 162 event.
Lashley won the contest via rear naked choke in the second round, improving his record to 16 wins and only two losses in his fighting career. During the interview, Lashley expressed interest in an MMA throwdown with fellow professional wrestling star Brock Lesnar.
“I think it would be really interesting, there have been a lot of people that have asked me that. I get asked that almost every day. I think there is so much money in that.”
Lashley went on to describe how he thinks the fight would go.
“I think it would turn into a slug fest, because I know Brock isn’t going to be taken down by an easy takedown. I scramble pretty hard and Brock has a little bit more size on me, but I scramble pretty well so it would be hard for him to get a takedown. So if neither of us can get the takedown then we need to rely on the striking, so I think it would be a slug fest which would be really interesting.”
Lesnar is no stranger to combat sports either, as ‘The Beast’ has racked up a record of six wins and three losses. The former WWE champion also reigned as the UFC heavyweight champion for a period of time, after downing the great Randy Couture in the main event of UFC 91 in 2008.
After his most recent win via unanimous decision at UFC 200 this past summer over Mark Hunt, which was flagged by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for a potential PED use in the competition, his fighting career hangs in the balance.
