Top 5 matches from Roman Reigns' record-breaking title reign

Roman Reigns’ 1,316-day reign as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion is indeed one for the books and will be remembered for being one of the longest in this generation. In line with this, it solidified his footing as one of the greatest pro wrestlers who ever stepped foot in the squared circle.

At the time, The Bloodline’s Tribal Chief successfully fended off Superstars thirsting to capture what he had, not to mention the prestige of being on top. Further, there were championship matches in which he and his opponents delivered superb performances and these are just some of them.

The main event match between Roman Reigns and former Honorary Uce Sami Zayn at Elimination Chamber in 2023 went on to become one of the much-awaited matches that year. The buildup leading to the epic brawl had gotten fans glued to WWE TV every week as they mused over what would go down between Reigns and Zayn.

The match took place in the latter’s hometown of Montreal where Zayn received thunderous cheers from his fans. The exchange between the two Superstars was solid with some occasional trash talk from the then-Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

In the end, The Bloodline’s Tribal Chief managed to pin Zayn for the win and keep his strap.

#4. Roman Reigns vs Drew McIntyre at Clash at the Castle (2022)

Another awesome match that Roman Reigns delved into was against Drew McIntyre at Clash at the Castle back in 2022. The PLE was held on McIntyre’s turf in Wales with the event drawing over 60,000 wrestling fans.

The match had numerous twists and turns which included Karrion Kross’ interference and Austin Theory almost cashing in his Money in the Bank contract, but he was knocked out by The Gypsy King himself – Tyson Fury.

Reigns got pinned by McIntyre and was almost on his way to capturing the championship from The Bloodline’s Tribal Chief until Solo Sikoa dragged him off of Reigns which led to him losing the match. After the epic encounter, The Scottish Warrior would, later on, be joined by Fury inside the ring and sing as if it was just another day in the office.

Logan Paul, the current WWE United States Champion, had proven early in his WWE career that he had what it took to be a superstar by putting up impressive performances in the ring. This is most likely one of the reasons he earned a title shot against Roman Reigns at 2022’s Crown Jewel PLE which was held in Saudi Arabia.

Reigns gained the upper hand at the beginning of the match but Paul had the answers, connecting with shots of his own. Case in point were the lucky punches that smacked The Bloodline leader before receiving Paul’s version of his signature Superman Punch.

One of the highlights of the match was when Paul delivered an insane frog splash on Reigns through the announce table. All this while recording himself and eventually crashing down on The Tribal Chief.

In the end, Reigns sealed Paul's fate by delivering a spear to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

#2. Last Man Standing match against Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam (2022)

Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar headlined SummerSlam in 2022 where the two behemoths slugged it out for the former’s Undisputed Championship in a Last Man Standing match.

In comparison to their previous brawls during this feud, many believed that this match had more intensity to it. Alongside the usual exchange of blows, Lesnar added some spice to the match by lifting one side of the ring using a tractor. This, while Reigns was still inside the ring!

Roman Reigns went on to win the match thanks to his cousins Jimmy and Jey Uso who came to his aid.

#1. Triple Threat match against Daniel Bryan and Edge at WrestleMania 37 (2021)

The main event of WrestleMania 37 Night 2 was supposed to be a match between Roman Reigns and Edge for the Universal Championship. It was then decided that Daniel Bryan would be added to the mix, making it a Triple Threat Match. As expected, all three superstars delivered the goods during their brawl, not to mention that the match was well-received by fans and critics alike.

During the final moments of the match, Edge had set up a Con-Chair-To for both Reigns and Bryan with the latter receiving it first. Just as The Rated R Superstar was about to deliver a chair shot to the then-champion, Jey Uso came in for the save that resulted in Roman Reigns retaining his title at the time.
