Top superstar to be dethroned; WWE star to make history? 4 New champions to expect in January 2025
In 2024, WWE saw several champions get dethroned. The company also introduced new titles. As the new year arrives, it's more than possible that more titles will change hands soon.
This year saw several championships change hands. The biggest is possibly Cody Rhodes dethroning Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL. Then there was Rhea Ripley, who relinquished the Women's World Title after being injured. The Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship was also split at The Show of Shows.
In this list, we will look at four possible new WWE champions in January 2025:
#4. Bianca Belair might have to let go of the Women's Tag Team Title soon
Last month, Jade Cargill was attacked backstage during an episode of SmackDown. The Storm has since been absent from television. Her attacker left Bianca Belair alone on the Friday Night Show. This means that only one-half of the Women's Tag Team Champions is currently active.
Since The EST of WWE is unlikely to defend the title by herself, she may be forced to relinquish the gold. The Stamford-based promotion can hold a tournament for the title featuring several possible teams like The Judgment Day (Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez), Pure Fusion Collective, The Unholy Union, and even The Fatal Influence (from NXT). Still, the most likely champions could be the members of Damage CTRL.
#3. Kevin Owens may finally achieve singles gold after several years
Kevin Owens has been trying to capture singles gold again in recent months, his current target being Cody Rhodes. From the looks of it, The Prizefighter might have a chance at doing so.
At Saturday Night's Main Event, KO nailed a Package Piledriver on Cody Rhodes. The Undisputed WWE Champion has been diagnosed with an axial compression of the cervical spine and a cervical strain with spasm. If The American Nightmare doesn't return anytime soon, the company may be forced to strip him of the title.
Notably, Owens is currently in possession of the Winged Eagle version of the title. If The Prizefighter is indeed crowned the new champion, this will be his first stint as singles champion since his United States Championship reign in 2017.
#2. A female superstar could make history after Chelsea Green
At Saturday Night's Main Event, Chelsea Green made history as she became the inaugural Women's United States Champion. For RAW, its history maker is set to be crowned soon.
At the moment, Dakota Kai, Zoey Stark, and Lyra Valkyria have qualified for the semifinals of the Women's Intercontinental Championship Tournament. The first round is set to end next week.
However, the firm favorite to win the Women's Intercontinental Title is Dakota Kai, who could be crowned on RAW's season premiere on Netflix on January 6.
#1. WWE NXT might see a new Women's Champion soon
At Deadline 2024, Giulia emerged victorious in the Women's Iron Survivor Challenge and became the number-one contender for Roxanne Perez's NXT Women's Championship. Interestingly, the Tuesday Night Show's new year might begin with a new champion.
Both women are set to face off at New Year's Evil on January 7, 2025. Roxanne has been an amazing champion thus far, but her time in the developmental brand may be coming to an end soon. With this in mind, Giulia may dethrone The Prodigy before the latter moves to WWE's main roster.
