Total Divas - Brie Bella and Daniel Bryan
From the outside looking in Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella seem like very different people who wouldn’t seem like they’d make a great couple, but after watching the first season of Total Divas, it’s obvious that the people we see on RAW and Smackdown are not at all like the people behind the characters. On WWE TV, both Brie and Nikki have been pushed as ruthless people who will do anything and everything to go through those opposing them to get to where they want to be. Those characters have worked well for RAW and Smackdown, but have greatly coloured how we see both of these girls as the strong and compassionate women they really are.
Like many sets of twins, the Bellas are very different women with quite different personalities. Nikki has shown to like the finer things in life and is very happy with her physical augmentations, though she loves strongly those who get close to her. She might fight with Brie, a lot, but she loves her twin over everyone else. She also loves John Cena with everything in her, and she understands that John is not ready to get married again, and might never marry again, but she loves him completely for who he is.
Brie, on the other hand, is more down to earth and cares about conservation, recycling, and healthy living. She also loves Bryan with every ounce of who she is. Other than when Brie is drinking and goes into ‘Brie Mode’ she is very much the earth mother, caring for everyone and everything around her. This fits in to what we know about Bryan’s life of healthy eating and living, though he’s had to step away from the vegan life due to a couple of minor health issues.
Looking deeper, beyond the surface of the characters these two people play on RAW and Smackdown, they appear to be a perfect match, and that’s something fantastic Total Divas has given us. I was not at all interested in the show when it was first announced, and I only started watching because it’s part of the WWE and the wrestling world that I love so much, but then I really started enjoying seeing these different sides of these wrestlers.
I enjoyed seeing who these people were when they weren’t playing the scripted characters we’ve grown to know them as. We all know they’re characters, that Triple H and Stephanie are strong business people, but not the evil and vindictive characters we see on TV each week. We see them outside their characters when they do media appearances, but we so rarely see the Superstars outside of their characters, and sometimes forget that they’re not really the characters they play on RAW and Smackdown. Total Divas has been a wonderful glimpse into the lives of certain WWE Superstars, opening my eyes to the wonderful relationship between Brianna Garcia-Colace and Bryan Danielson.
