Triple H's bias and a major betrayal? - 3 reasons why Gunther is likely to walk out of WWE SummerSlam as World Heavyweight Champion
Triple H has already got a few matches penciled in for SummerSlam 2024. Chief among them are the title matches for the WWE Women's Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship. This World Heavyweight Title match is particularly intriguing, as it will see two heavy hitters, Gunther and Damian Priest go head-to-head.
It's a huge match, the winner of which would be difficult for anyone to predict. Gunther is a force of nature, who has run through every one of his opponents while setting numerous records along the way. Priest is the reigning and defending World Heavyweight Champion, who has been dominant since becoming champion. So, who will Triple H book to come out on top?
Well, some strongly believe that The Ring General will be the one to leave SummerSlam victorious. Looking across the board, there are a plethora of reasons why Triple H may book this finish.
Here are some scenarios that may play out:
#3. Triple H wouldn't want to see Gunther lose on a big stage like SummerSlam
Technically, Triple H isn't one to play favorites, but there is no denying that he deeply appreciates Gunther's work. Since joining WWE, Gunther, or as he was previously known, WALTER has been a force to be reckoned with. He very rarely loses matches, and this trend might continue at SummerSlam 2024.
Furthermore, even if The King of Kings wanted to book Gunther to lose, it certainly wouldn't be on another big stage like SummerSlam. The Ring General already suffered a loss at WrestleMania 40, since then he has had only one major PLE appearance. To have him lose so soon after a major loss to Sami Zayn would be harsh.
#2. Damian Priest may be forced to deal with the betrayal of The Judgment Day
Another reason why Triple H could be planning to have Gunther win is the brewing storyline with The Judgment Day. While Damian Priest has been successful as champion, his reign has led to some turmoil with The Judgment Day. In particular, he seems to be butting heads more often with Finn Balor.
It seems as though an implosion could be on the horizon for the group. So, who's to say that it won't happen at SummerSlam? Balor could cost Priest the match leading to The Judgment Day's break up. With that, the feud between the two can commence while also maintaining Priest's look as a powerhouse, especially seeing that he has a decent run as champion already.
#1. WWE can plan for a WrestleMania 41 feud between Gunther and Seth Rollins
Having Gunther win at SummerSlam also gives Triple H to explore a fresh new feud. As way back as this year's Royal Rumble, WWE has been teasing a potential rivalry between Gunther, and The Visionary, Seth Rollins. Now, so long as Damian Priest remains champion, Rollins cannot challenge for the World Heavyweight Title. But, if Gunther were to win, it would change everything.
Rollins versus Gunther is a feud that has the potential to be the main event of WrestleMania 41. They are two of the biggest names in the locker room, and a fight between the two will certainly have the air of a big-money feud.
However, this is nothing more than mere speculation, and only time will tell whether or not WWE pulls the trigger on this.
