Triple H's surprise for Cody Rhodes may not be the Winged Eagle WWE title: What could it be instead?
Saturday Night's Main Event will be a big night for Cody Rhodes. Not only will he be taking on his former friend Kevin Owens, he will also be defending the Undisputed WWE Championship. So, ahead of the event, Triple H had a gift for The American Nightmare. A gift, he made clear, can only be used for one night and one night only.
Now, taking a look at the case in which the gift was delivered, many have assumed it is the legendary Winged Eagle WWE Title. Cody Rhodes has long been a fan of that design and has wanted to bring it back for some time now. But, what if that is not the case? What if, instead of the Winged Eagle, Triple H has gifted Rhodes a different title? To be precise, the 1977 WWF Heavyweight Championship.
Although Cody Rhodes is a huge fan of the Winged Eagle, the 1977 WWF Heavyweight Championship holds a lot more meaning. After all, some may say it's the very reason he had to "finish the story". Why? Well, the 1977 title is the very one that Cody's father, Dusty Rhodes held over his head at Madison Square Garden after beating then-champion, 'Superstar' Billy Graham.
Unfortunately, the title was taken away from him, as The American Dream had won by count-out, meaning the title could not change hands. So, as a means to pay homage to Dusty, Triple H could have his son walk out with the title the former was so close to winning. But of course, at the end of the day, this is nothing more than speculation.
Cody Rhodes has vengeance on his mind heading into Saturday Night's Main Event
As mentioned earlier, this Saturday is a big one for Cody Rhodes. He is all set to take on his former friend, Kevin Owens one-on-one, with his Undisputed WWE Championship on the line. It is a huge match, but it is so much more than just that for The American Nightmare.
This isn't the first time Rhodes has faced The Prizefighter, so it's nothing special. No, this match was never about the title, but more about vengeance. For those who don't remember, KO put Randy Orton back on the shelf with a devastating piledriver a few weeks ago. This greatly angered Cody, who now wants to settle the score with Owens once and for all.
It will be interesting to see if this blood feud finally comes to an end over the weekend. Safe to say, all eyes will be on Rhodes and Owens come Saturday night.
