Triple H workout: How does The Game maintain his physique?

Triple H in the midst of a workout!

Triple H has held many titles in his WWE career. He started wrestling for WWE in 1995 and has been an important player ever since. Triple H married into the business when he married Stephanie McMahon and has become Vince McMahon's second-hand man. However, it is Triple H’s intense workout regiment that got him success in the business in the first place.

His current title is Executive of Talent Relations, Live Events and Creative and he is seen as the obvious successor when Vince steps down. The Game also books both NXT and the Cruiser Weight Classic which is some of the best wrestling in the WWE Universe.

Triple H earned a lot of accolades during his career with the WWE, including the WWE Champion 9 times, along with a 5 time WWE World Heavyweight Champion. He has been a main event star for over two decades and continues to main-event Wrestlemania even at the ripe old age of 47.

Even when it is only a few matches a year, The Cerebral Assassin is always in peak physical fitness. Although he is one of the oldest workers in the business, he still looks bigger than most of the roster. Keeping up those muscles is hard work and this is a bit of how The Game maintains his physique.

The King of King’s likes to start his morning with 30-45 minutes of low-intensity treadmill running. He then does some foam rolls and a few other dynamic stretches to get warmed up.

The first day is chest and back, followed by shoulder, then legs, finally arms and two days off. The Game likes to break up his workout with two days of heavy intensity training and two days of faster, lighter workouts based more on repetition.

For his chest, according to Muscle and Fitness, Triple H starts with four sets of Inclined Chest Presses doing sets of 10, 8, 6 and 4 reps, reducing the number as he goes on. He does two sets of flat-bench dumbbell presses, the first being eight reps and the second being six.

He then does 2 sets of dumbbell flyes with 10-8 reps the first time and 6-7 the second. Finally, he does a set of hammer strength presses until he can not do them anymore, pretty tough guy stuff.

Sometimes Triple H will also do back and chest on the same days in a circuit, meaning short rapid movements. He likes to train certain movements instead of training just body parts.
Even though The Game has held 25 different title belts in his time, he does not use a belt while lifting.

Instead, Triple H focuses on core strength and doesn’t use the belt as a crutch in the gym.

When the Cerebral Assassin wants to work on his back, he starts with two sets of pull ups, the first set he does 10 reps of his body weight, the second he does 6-7 but with additional weight. Next, he uses the Smith Machine bent over row, for 3 sets of 10, 8 and 6 declining in number each time.

He does 2 sets of one-arm dumbbell rows on each arm, the first set he does 10 reps, the second set he does 6. Triple H then does 12 sets of back extensions of his bodyweight then does 8-10 more with 45 pounds added.

Working out with Triple H might not be the easiest thing, but it certainly pays off. Triple H has been known to share the gym with his wife Stephanie McMahon, who always looks in great shape. Ever wonder why there seems to be a never-ending Sheamus push, despite the facts no wrestling fan cares about Sheamus.

One rumoured reason is that Sheamus is Triple H’s favourite workout buddy, and that pays off when it comes to booking. It really is all about the game and how you play it.

When the Cerebral Assassin wants to do legs and biceps, he starts with 4 sets of seated rows of 10-15 reps. Then does four sets of lat pull-downs with 8-10 reps at a time. He moves on to 4 sets of leg extensions of 10 reps each. Four sets of calf raisings of 10 reps. Three sets of leg curls of 10 reps. Four sets of barbell curls of 10-15 reps, and ends with 4 sets of dumbbell curls of 15 reps.

Triple H’s strength is no joke; the man can lift Brock Lesnar up with no problem. The Game can bench up to 405 pounds at a single go and do 30 reps of 200 lbs. He is able to box squat 500 lbs and has a 40-inch box jump.

Like most wrestlers Triple H eats 6 small meals a day, to keep up his metabolism. He avoids all junk food while eating meats, vegetables, starches, fruits and large amounts of water to stay hydrated. The Game is also a huge fan of protein shakes.

How hard Triple H works shows whenever he gets in the ring. To be able to work like he does every single time he gets in the ring is amazing when you think of all the injuries Triple H has gotten in his time.

During different matches, he has torn both quadriceps muscles and still finished the matches. The King of Kings has torn biceps, abductor muscles and piriformis muscle. One of his worst injuries was a torn calf muscle, when Cactus Jack suplexed him onto a wooden pallet, causing a piece of wood to tear his calf, he still finished the match.

All these injuries have forced Triple H to change how he works out. He started working with trainer Joe Defranco, to start working around his injuries. Since then HHH has added 125 pounds to his bench press, according to Defranco.

Triple H himself says he feels in the best shape he has ever been in. The changes in Triple H’s training shows no signs of stopping his few matches a year anytime soon, and we can expect him to be at a few more Wrestlemanias.
