Two former WWE World Champions facing each other outside the company
Fans of the PG and Ruthless Aggression era will get nostalgic with this one. Two of WWE’s biggest stars, Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio, will face each other on March 20th for the UR Fight Promotion in Phoenix Arizona.
Angle has just completed what he himself calls his farewell tour, part of TNA’s Maximum Impact tour of the UK. He wrestled his last match for the promotion on January 31st this year, marking the end of a decade-long association with the promotion.
Rey Mysterio’s 13-year relationship with the WWE ended in February last year when his contract expired. He has since returned to his roots, performing for Lucha Libre outfits AAA and Lucha Underground. There has been some buzz on the grapevine that he’s returning to the WWE, but there is no substantiation yet.
The event also features a fight between MMA legends and once-WWE stars Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn and a grappling contest between one of the most copious trash-talkers of all time, Chael Sonnen and top 10 Middleweight Michael ‘The Count’ Bisping.
To add a little more variety to combat sports fans’ tastes, boxing legend Roy Jones jr. will face a fan with the challenger hauling $100,000 if he or she wins.
