Two matches confirmed for Wrestlemania 29
Following last night’s Elimination Chamber PPV, the following two matches have been tentatively confirmed to take place at WrestleMania 29:
1. WWE Championship match:
The Rock (c) vs John Cena
2. World Heavyweight Championship match:
Alberto Del Rio (c) vs Jack Swagger
2013 Royal Rumble winner John Cena had already made it clear that he will go after the WWE Champion at WrestleMania 29. Soon after The Rock’s victory against CM Punk in the WWE Championship match at Elimination Chamber, John Cena tweeted:
Congrats @therock …… I’ll see you at #thedance @wwe get ready for #WM29 4/7/13
— John Cena (@JohnCena) February 18, 2013
So, it is evident that we are in for ‘Once in a lifetime: Part II – The Rock vs John Cena’ at WrestleMania 29. The only difference this time is that the WWE Championship will be at stake. Since both these men are babyfaces at the moment, CM Punk could be brought into the mix to make it a triple threat, but it is too soon to come to that conclusion.
Jack Swagger earned the opportunity to challenge Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania 29 courtesy of his Elimination Chamber match victory. Swagger, who had already won the same title in 2011 by cashing in his Money in the Bank contract, will be up against the ‘Mexican Aristocrat’ Alberto Del Rio. It will be interesting to see how the WWE brings in Swagger’s new ‘Real American’ gimmick into this match. It would have been perfect if he used this gimmick against someone like Antonio Cesaro.
Now that two title matches have been confirmed, the coming weeks will reveal the stipulations of these matches.
