Unpopular Opinion: John Cena should be the favorite to win the 2019 Royal Rumble Match

On last night's episode of WWE RAW, John Cena entered himself into the Men's Royal Rumble Match. While other participants like Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre are the current favorites, I believe Cena should now be considered the favorite to win the match.

Cena is currently tied with Ric Flair for the most World title reigns all-time at sixteen and before his career ends it is inevitable that he will surpass that number. The only question is when that record-breaking reign will happen, and there is no bigger stage to do it on than WrestleMania. The stories and feuds with Daniel Bryan and Brock Lesnar, should they still be champions come WrestleMania, write themselves.

If Cena were to face Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship, which is the route that should be taken, the story could be either personal, since they were at one time brothers in law when Cena was dating Nikki Bella. They can also go with the story that Bryan's victory over Cena at SummerSlam in 2013 began his ultimate rise and that Cena has never beaten Bryan.

If Cena were to face Lesnar for the Universal Championship, which is the less desirable of the scenarios, the story could be that their feud goes back to when they first started in WWE and ever since Lesnar destroyed Cena at SummerSlam in 2014, Cena has never been the same and this could be the last time the two face each other again.

Cena vs. Bryan makes the most sense since while RAW has many routes and options for the Universal Championship matchup at WrestleMania, Smackdown doesn't have that luxury since the blue brand is so heel heavy at the moment. We are already getting AJ Styles vs. Bryan for the third time at the Rumble so a fourth match between the two is highly unlikely.

While Jeff Hardy vs. Bryan would be a fresh match and a feud between the two would be interesting, especially with Bryan's new heel gimmick, Hardy has done little since dropping the United States Championship last summer.

The only other credible face left is Rey Mysterio, and while that also would be a great match, it just doesn't have the "sizzle" that a Cena vs. Bryan match would have in my opinion. Meanwhile, on the RAW side of things, you can throw guys like Rollins, McIntyre, Finn Balor, Bobby Lashley, Elias, and Dean Ambrose into the Elimination Chamber and let them duke it out to see who will challenge Lesnar for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania.

While Cena may not be the "sexy" pick to win the Rumble and many may disagree, especially since Cena has won the Rumble twice already and many fans want something fresh and new like a Rollins or McIntyre win, when you sit and think about it Cena should be considered the favorite to win the annual 30-man match.
