Video: The Undertaker's WrestleMania gear being removed from the ring
The emotional ending of The Undertaker’s (presumably) last match with Roman Reigns will forever be an iconic WrestleMania moment. As a tribute to his legacy, WWE left the Dead Man’s coat, hat, and gloves – which he symbolically placed in the middle of the ring – for a good 30 minutes after the show ended.
It’s an image that will certainly pop up time and again on numerous retrospectives of both WrestleMania and The Undertaker himself.
The sight of what’s left of the Undertaker character being taken to the back one last time is, in its own way, kind of moving. The video can be seen below:
As of the time of this post, WWE has yet to make any formal announcement regarding the Undertaker’s future. His wife, former WWE star Michelle McCool, recently made some Intsagram posts thanking WWE fans for their support, but hasn’t said anything concrete regarding his retirement, either.
Whether he’s retired or not, and why WWE hasn’t been making any official statements on the topic, is certainly open to speculation.
Personally, I think the reason why they haven’t said anything is two-fold. First, it retains the mystery of the character and, whether he actually wrestles again or not, there’s still money to be made from it.
Secondly – and sort of along that same line - I doubt either WWE nor Mark Calaway want to entirely close the door on a final match. Granted, Undertaker’s upcoming operation to take out his hip and put in a new one might put the kebosh on that, no matter what he wants to do.
Either way, the speculation keeps us interested, and that’s what WWE wants.
