Videos: WWE Stars Featured On SNL 40, Andre The Giant References, The Rock's Past SNL Appearances

SNL celebrated its 40th anniversary

Last night was the 40th anniversary of Saturday Night Live. Saturday Night Live (abbreviated as SNL) is an American late-night live television sketch comedy and variety show created by Lorne Michaels and developed by Dick Ebersol. The show premiered on NBC on October 11, 1975, under the original title NBC's Saturday Night. The show's comedy sketches, which parody contemporary culture and politics, are performed by a large and varying cast of repertory and newer cast members. Each episode is hosted by a celebrity guest (who usually delivers an opening monologue and performs in sketches with the cast) and features performances by a musical guest. An episode normally begins with a cold open sketch that ends with someone breaking character and proclaiming, "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!," beginning the show proper.

In the sketch below, Norm McDonald portrays Burt Reynolds and keeps referencing Andre the Giant on Celebrity Jeopardy.

There was also a montage featuring athletes on the show, which you can check out below. The Rock, John Cena, Triple H, Mankind and Hulk Hogan are featured in the video.

The Rock first hosted SNL in 2000, which featured appearances from Mick Foley, Big Show, Triple H and Vince McMahon, which you can check out below:

Hulk Hogan and Mr. T hosted the show before WrestleMania I in 1985, which you can check out below:

The Rock has also made a couple of appearances on the show over the past several years as "The Rock Obama":
